I don't think a restart of Pan Am MkIII would signal much of anything. It is now merely a name and a logo affixed to some obsolete jets flying oddball routes that nobody else wants to serve. So sad. It would be better if the name was retired forever.

No, it's actually the third "rebirth" (or is it the fourth now?) of Pan Am. The only relation to the original airline is the name and color scheme.
I do have to admit to being pleased that even though this is not related to the original, that the company that owns "Pan Am" has retained the color scheme on the planes.

"This could be the start of a re-birth for the troubled carrier? It"
Ha. This Pan Am is the shadiest, most backwards, corrupt carrier in the US skies today. Stewart airport has gained a carrier that doesn't pay its bills and is a complete and total mess.

looks like Pan AM III is picking up a lot of former Southeast routes. I'm glad to see them serving an airport that I like to fly from. However their routes seem to last about a year before dissapearing.

OMG - did anyone else read this from the article? Where are all these 727's they own? Not at SFB, maybe up at Pease?
"In these times of rising fuel costs and other operating expenses, Fink said what sets his operation apart is that they own all 41 of their aircraft -- 21 Jet Stream Regional Jets and 30 Boeing 727s. Therefore, that means no bank payments on leased aircraft. The money saved on that can be used to buy additional fuel, he said."

Actually the hudson river valley HAS a tremendous need for service like this. This is a very profitable niche that if exploited can generate huge profits.

Yeah...if it were ANY other carrier other than Pan Am. Getting service from Pan Am is a lot like the Native Americans getting diseased blankets from the Wester settlers.

Is this the same corrupt Pan Am that just recently suspended ops so that the head of it could transfer flying to another division for some screwed up reason?
I'd like a real, credible management team to start a Pan Am airline. Not this asswipe that's been screwing over the employees.

Flights will connect Portsmouth, NH; Columbus, Ohio; Stewart Airport, NY; Clearwater, FL and a host of other must-see places. Geez...you'd think this was a frigging railroad or something. Wonder whether the flights will be aboard 727s or boxcars. .

So is there a city of 'Stewart' in NY, or if the airport is just called Stewart, what city is it in? From the little pic I saw from that online newspaper, the one with the pan am 727 in it, the Stewart airport looks to have at least 6 or 7 jetways. So who else flies to this city?

Oh, I see. They have 21 + 30 = 41 planes (!), of which 20-30 are 727s.
But don't worry, they'll be able to afford the fuel (even for those models)
from not having down payments on aircraft rentals / leases.
Good luck. If you're not insured for a ticket with these clowns, you'll
have no one but yourself to blame...

When I was at PSM last fall there were ten or so 727s there. Some still in UA paint. I believe some are still in storage out west and I think some of the aircraft were going to be used for parts only. As I recall the agreement with UA is they could not use the aircraft on routes within the USA.

Was someone looking out the window at airplanes a little bit too much in math class during the lessons on Addition and Subtraction? Juuuuuust Kiddin'!
How much traffic does this airport see? It seems they have most of the majors operating to at least one of their hubs. Who is the biggest operator there?
I just love these kinds of small commercial airports in small cities. Not just small airports, but ones JUST like SWF, where they have a nice and WAY oversized terminal for the amount of traffic they have. From the pic I saw, it looked like it has more jetways than I would imagine there are flights on the ground at any one time! Obviously I don't know anything about this place, so take that with a grain of salt. But in case someone has some more info about SWF, I'd love to get some stats on the traffic and how many flights, etc. I know its off the original topic but it was probably dead anyway. LOL

Nation's first privatized airport. National Express PLC of UK holds a 99-year lease. Please see www.stewartintlairport.com for history etc. The site doesn't give pax figures, but since everybody flies only RJ's (a few times a day) into Stewart, it can't be that high. But there is potential. The Hudson Valley area has quite a lot of people and businesses. And we just hate to drive to LGA, EWR, and especially JFK.
Southeast was the only one flying "big" jets to Stewart, and they were the biggest carrier at that time. This also tells you comething about the volume.

This blows. This Dave Fink is a lowlife who has screwed everyone he has done business with. Not just with the Carl Ichan like stint he pulled with the union and actually won in court, but as part of the Boston and Maine railroad, run by the same company. They are not maintaining much of the trackage the run over, hoping that they can discontinue freight service to paying customers and pocket the profits. And the whole fiasco with the new Downeaster train to maine, where they were ordered to upgrade the track, which they did, but they purposely upgraded it not enough, which kept the trains running slower and led to long drawn out court battles before Amtrak finally won.
Anyways, I love and miss the old Pan Am and wish someone would come along with a good vision and restore the good name. But it won't happen with this lowlife. I am a dispatcher and I saw they are hiring new dispatchers. I would never ever ever ever work for this company in a million years.
