If that was true, they'd have to get an aircraft that could operate the route. Their TU-154Ms don't have the range, and the IL-86s are too loud to be allowed to land in the US. However, I am not fully aware of any cooperations FV has with other Russian carriers, but only if one of them has aircraft capable of operating that flight, they could do it.

Pulkovo Website:

''Three new destinations: Delhi, Antalia and Shanghai are introduced on international scheduled air lines.
The frequency of scheduled flights to London, Rome, Milan and Beijing is increased.

Due to growth of passenger demand bigger types of aircraft will operate flights to such destinations as Budapest and Prague.''

No news of a JFK service, but they do have a few longhaul ones. So th planes must be there.

Next trip : DUB-AUH-CGK-DPS-KUL-AUH-CDG-ORK :-)

Sure the planes are there, namely the IL-86s, which can easily do those routes, but as I said, the IL-86s don't meet Western noise regulations, hence why FV now only uses TU-154Ms to Europe, instead of IL-86s and TU-154Bs.

I wonder if they could acquire IL-96's or lease western aircraft for this.

Regardless, this would be an interesting service; focusing on O/D ethnic market. Could it survive past the summer season, being that Moscow recieves the lion's share of J-class traffic?

Well I never knew Airbus made the IL-86.

"10 aircraft TU-154B, 15 aircraft TU-154M, 10 aircraft TU-134 and 7 airbus IL-86." - the Pulkovo website

"More than 2 billion passengers are transported by Pulkovo annually." Is this true? If it is...what an airline. They haul 1/3 of the worlds population serving 43 cities with 42 planes.

Are these just typos?

Yes...I am not a KIX fan. Let's Japanese Aviation!

Hopefully. Those numbers are optimistic even by old Aeroflot numbers.

I don't know if this helps but...In Russia, a lot of people refer to widebody aircraft as airbuses. Not as in Airbus the aircraft company, but rather as a 'bus with wings' so to speak. So when people in Russia say airbus, they just mean a big jet. So that's probably what the website meant. But I do agree that their statement if awfully confusing. Maybe I will write a comment to them.

So what transatlantic aspirations does Pulkovo have?

Since when can an IL-86 do 3730 nm easily? An IL-96-300 wouldn't break a sweat, but IL-86s have no legs

Well, FV is using them regularly to PEK, and route is also roughly some 3400nm long, IIRC. Nonetheless, it could be that FV has enroute stops, but I don't about that.

Maybe Pulkovo can get some IL-96's in the fleet, could the TU-204 make it?

Rob!
