KQ 772 New Livery At AMS

I just saw the Kenya Airways 777 wearing the airline's new livery take off from AMS. I didn't know this aircraft already entered commercial service or did Kenya Airways already re-paint its other 777s in the airline's new livery?

Regards,

I wanted to photograph this new bird, tough luck I guess. Hopefully better luck the next time.

I just flew this bird from Dubai to Nairobi (April 27th). Was a bit concerned when checking in that they had booked 350 pax or so, as the plane was scheduled to be a 763. So I was relieved to see this bird pull up.

But my initial impression of the livery (that it's a cheap charicature) remain. When we got off at Nairobi the next morning, the terminal was packed with Kenya Airways planes in the old livery. This one looked so amateurish against them that it was just sad. I spoke to a businessman on my connecting flight to Dar es Salaam about it and he said the new colours are just what you'd expect from a western organisation trying to interpet African culture - cartoonish.

And it's so true. The part that really grates me is the brighter, lipstick red and the two stripcurving down over the rear fuselage from the tail. the tail colours are straight at the base then suddenly turn into this curved line. It looks absurd and amateurish.

A pity.

I still have to see the livery in person. Up until now I like the livery, even though the stripes from the older livery will be missed. If they would have kept the distinctive stripes it would have made the livery much better.

I personally love the old colours, but the new one is nice!

How many weekly services do KQ have at LHR?

Rob!

A388,

It's also scheduled for todays flight arrival 17.51LT.
The new colour is ok, already glad that's not totally white, like everyone is doing lately.

Hi Dutch22,

Thank you for the information, I didn't have time to go to the airport. I feel really sad, I missed it!!!! Do you know when this new livery will visit AMS again this month? Where can I find this info? Next month I will be on vacation, maybe KQ will use this new livery in June as well? Looking forward to your reply.

Many thanks,

A388

I disagree totally. The old livery is just too out of date. I like the new one.

I disagree with that. Kenya Airways does not need a 'modern' looking color scheme. It needs something to represent its country - Kenya. I think the old livery did that very well, and i loved it, having flown to and from Nairobi on their 763s - they are a very professional airline with a very professional image, and the new livery can only do bad things for it. It represents nothing, and says nothing about where they are from except for the titles. Maybe they will realize this soon and change to something different. MrComet - go to NBO and see at the airport how out of place their cartoon 777 looks.

Hi Dutch122,

I went to Schiphol today but Kenya Airways used its 'older' 772 to AMS today with the current colourscheme. Where do you get the information on the aircraft operated to AMS? Maybe we will have better luck with the new livery the next time. Anyway thanks for your information. You were right, there were indeed some nice surprises today at Schiphol. I photographed the following aircraft this afternoon: AMC A-300 (all-white) and the Luzair L-1011-500, which was a real treat I must say. I also saw the Star L-1011-500 but it already left before I went to the spectator's terrace. Please keep us all informed about the KQ schedule regarding their newest 772 Big grin

Heey Kas,

What's up. No, I didn't see those aircraft  Sad I arrived at Schiphol around 16:45, a bit late. I will be taking my camera to work every day this coming week in case KQ decides to use the new 772 to AMS again. I also want to take photos of Korean Air's A330-200. I missed it last week by a few minutes!! Better luck next time  Smile

Next sunday I will be going on vacation to Curaçao, it will be my first time flying on the 744, I'm very excited Big grin

if you are interested to receive the info about what is expected in Amsterdam every day, should have mentioned what can be expected. Go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Dutch_Aviation_Photographer/
subscribe yourself and have a good vacation on Curacao, you go as SA or confirmed.

Am I right in presuming that site is free?

I always use www.scramble.nl and www.aircolours.com

If it's an E-ticket you can print the ticket at home, some 12 hours before departure (dunno the exact time window).
Then all you have to do is go past customs, look at the monitors right after customs to see what gate you're supposted to be and go shopping before going to the gate.
(I booked my first E-ticket recently aswell, with BA. And I did what I just said and everything went smoothly  Smile )

Enough talking for now.

Kas

Heey Kas,

The booking of my ticket went a little 'weird'. I booked through KLM's website, but after discovering that it would take me more than 5 days to transfer the money to KLM (while the ultimatum is 5 days) I went to the KLM desk at Schiphol to pay the ticket directly. So I ended up getting my confirmation at Schiphol. Do I still have to check in as a 'e-passenger'? How about the luggage, where do I check in my luggage? I assume that procedure is the same as when you check-in the 'regular' way?

You are absolutely right, great minds do think alike  angel

Ahhh damn. I only had my camera bag with me when I went on BA. So yes, for you it's normal procedure check-in.

I need to think before writing the next time...

it's free the listing.

A388,
Did they charge you €45 Ticketing Service Fee when you paid it at their counter.

Anyway enjoy your holiday

You got 2 options:
1) Check in by internet = print you own boarding card and drop you luggage
2) Normal check in
