Hi there,

I was just looking at the OAG guides this morning, in particular to see if there were any domestic Brazilian sectors operated by TAM A330s. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any, although I recall, quite recently that they had a daily service between GRU and GIG.

Any comments?

Obrigado!

Hey Kaitak,

TAM did indeed operate its A330's on domestic services. Two of them were JJ846 GIG-Brasilia-Fortaleza and POA-GRU-BSB mid-last year. Not sure if its still been operated by A330. It's most likely they now use A320's.

I highly doubt that they would use an A330 between GIG and GRU since it is not appropriate in terms of distance (fuel consumption etc.) those flights are operated by A319 and take little less than an hour nonstop

Cheers
.

Hello there!

Just to add some information. As far as I know the A330s are used on regular flights between São Paulo - Recife - Fortaleza as well.

Also, It seems to me that there are/were some flights to/from Afonso Pena airport (Curitiba)...

About GRU-GIG links, yes, TAM does use them but not on exclusive flights, but when they are coming from/going to Miami and Charles de Gaulle. Thus, this airlink is just a leg of an international and major service.

(about the A320s): they have been used mainly on the new "Superponte" service between CGH and SDU. Actually, they carry on the tail the word "Superponte".

Hope to have helped and regards,

TP343, São Paulo, Brazil.

P.s. um abraço, Leo! Precisamos bater papo algum dia!

Speaking of TAM A330's, we've been visited by 3 over this weekend at MSY. They've been running charter flights from GYE (I'm not sure where that is) to MSY for a major computer conference. They'll be back next weekend.

It was the first visits from an A330, I do believe, at MSY.

Does TAM have a web-site? AVHOME doesn't list one, and yahoo's no help. Thanks.

Hello Tom!

Well remarked!

Due to the low demand on both national and international markets TAM has been using their A330 on chartered services very ofter: San Carlos de Bariloche (carrying $$$ tourists), Indianapolis (carrying Formula Cart personal to Rio), Lisbon and Santiago do Chile (carrying Brazilian presidency and ministries - actually the Brazilian government signed one year agreement with TAM in order to retire "Sucatão" - "big piece of barbage", the Presidential rests of what someday was a magnificent B707), etc.

That's a good plane, with great range and confort, and it's also a way to TAM make money in difficult times!

Regards!

Hey there TP343,

Thanks for the info on TAM. I'll go over and look at their website. I was just looking at an aircraft census website, and saw that TAM has 4 A330's! PT-MVA visited MSY yesterday in the late afternoon...and I was able to get some good pictures (I hope!!! I'll get them printed tomorrow). He left and ferried over to MIA (said he was going to cruise at 41,000 feet for the flight).

The other two came in overnight last night (one after midnight, the other early this morning). I think they come back on Friday (hopefully they'll let me take a look inside).

Take care.
