Alitalia's Livery

Just saw an Alitalia MD80 coming in to land at Manchester.

Would other people agree with me that Alitalia's current livery, which dates, for you younger ones, from as far back as 1969, was/is a true classic.

To me, Alitalia's aircraft all still look fresh and modern in this livery and all the new types Alitalia have introduced since 1969 have looked good in it.

Quite an achievement for a thirty-six year old scheme and my hat off to the designer-does anyone know who he/she was?

Also, think of how many colour schemes other airlines have been through over the period 1969-2005 and how unimaginative some modern schemes look-eg Lufthansa, Air France, SN Brussels.

I have mixed feelings on this one. The livery looks good on some aircrafts but looks bad on others. For example, I think it looks / looked great on the big birds; MD-11, 777, 747, etc.

There is really no real reason for this, it just looks old to me on the smaller aircrafts. I do agree though that it's nice to have AZ keeping with a livery that was original 30 years ago and it's still original now.

Alitalia's livery/ID is perhaps its greatest asset, no need to change it. I particularly like it on the DC-10 and the MD-11  Smile

Whether you hate it or love it, you have to admit, AZ's livery is as original and timeless today as it was almost 40 years ago...

Black nose or not, that's up for debate, but the one thing that's for sure, Alitalia's logo will not change for a long time...

That livery looks real nice on the MD-11's and MD-80's. It makes the plane look more sleeker.

This is one of those "I know someone who knows the girlfriend of a guy who spoke with the son of the friend of the dude" posts...but I have heard it said that the guy who designed the new AC livery was working with Alitalia. He was suggesting they so a subtle Italian green on their aircrafts. He was promptly fired after AC's new scheme got such a bad response. Can you imagine Alitalia's livery with the AC's fuselage?! It would look so disgusting!
Sorry if I offend anyone.

The alitalia livery used to be good, but now it needs to at least be updated, if not changed completely.

Try not to be jealous, we can't all be Czech.
25 Post contains images Thomasphoto60 : I don't believe what I am reading! The AZ cheatline livery is simply a classic, beautiful and graceful reminder of an era in commercial aviation quick
26 Braybuddy : Definitely a classic. Hasn't dated at all
27 Phatty3374 : Looks great on the new E170's. It's also nice that they have "Alitalia" painted on the top of the wings of some aircraft.
28 Aeri28 : I've always liked the Alitalia livery, but I do prefer their special livery they had a few years ago on their 747's which was all silver basically. It

30 Post contains links and images N243NW : AZ's livery, especially on their widebodies, looks awesome...along with AA, it's one of the few timeless ones around today. I think this photo's comme
31 KC135R : Agreed on the livery, but I like the black nose - I think it adds something to it, though I can't place my finger on what exactly that is.
32 Stirling : The A330 is a beautiful ship. But, like I told my ex-wife, "Don't wear WHITE, it makes you look fat." (Maybe that's why the old-bag isn't around anymo
33 ETStar : The black nose has got to go... it's like a huge mole especially on the ERJs! The 170, as ugly as it is, is made even more uglier with the mole.
34 Post contains images AeroVodochody : The A330 looks horrible in that livery, a completely different, shorter, fatter, bird than the one I know and love. Allow me:
35 Post contains images Alitalia744 : C'mon guys, how can you say she's ugly, just look at her...(God I miss these birds).
36 Post contains images AeroVodochody : Personally, I would really love it if they brought back their old livery, even if it was only on a few A/C's, it's one of my favorite older liveries.
37 Post contains images CURLYHEADBOY : Anyway it's likely that Eurofly widebodies will get the new livery soon, shouldn't look bad on the 330
38 Post contains images Stall : Right !!! At least they should remove this damn black spot. The livery is so outdated, its a shame for the Italian design
39 Alitalia744 : 'It's a hell of a lot better than anything that's come out of Switzerland in the last 30 years that's for sure...
40 Post contains images Stall : I totally agree with you but I am sure italians can do much better than what they have got right now.
41 A335 : ALITALIA is the best looking airliner out there. Love the 747-200's. brings out a lot of memories. Just keep it like that.
42 Post contains links and images Erikwilliam : it´s a nice livery, not the best, but a good one. But one thing that makes me thinking, why it the black nose, it does not do well to rest of the pla
43 Post contains links and images Airdolomiti : Like this? I did that a while ago...I might try it on a 747, or an MD-11, if I have the time. Federico
44 Stirling : I don't want to veer to far off topic (or start a new one), but which routes do the Alitalia E170s serve?
45 Kahala777 : Hmmmm.... A Story Teller? Are We? - United and US Airways will be long gone before Alitalia is taken out of the skies! Regards - Kahala777
46 Post contains images AeroVodochody : Yeah! I think it beats the current one by a long shot!
47 NightFlier : I believe the reason for the black nose tip is any dings or nics in the nose cone can be seen easier. The radar system is right behind that nose cone
48 Post contains images Srbmod : The way the light blue on the belly just abruptly stops, making it look like either they were too lazy or too cheap to finish painting it.
49 ANITIX87 : AeroVodochody... Your comparison of A330's is not accurate. The Eurofly (Alitalia) A330 you used is an A332. The US Airways A330 you pictured is an A3
50 Post contains images AeroVodochody : Yes, I knew that the A332 is shorter than the A333, I was only trying to say that the 332 looks somewhat fatter (and therefore shorter) in white. The
