Wizz Air DTM-WAW: Stopped Recently?

When checking around on wizzair.com I found no flight Dortmund-Warschau anymore, however on the Wizzair posters and banner in DTM, they also advertised with WAW flights. On their website is no news about the route being stopped. Is this route stopped recently, or will it be launched in the near future? And if it's stopped, has it to do with the LOT discussions about WAW airport?

For now, it looks quite strange that there are flights from DTM to Gdansk, Katowice and Krakow, but not to Warschau.

The route was discontinued by the end of March.

Strange. It would have bet a lot that they would discontinue the route to Krakow because EZY also offers it from DTM.

That is partially because of WAW new fees effective beginning of march. Wizz and SKY both expended their operation in Poland, but not in WAW, as it is one of the most expensive airports in region. Here is a link to my post .... Nobody had anything to say about it at the time  banghead

At the same time, Wizzair will expand its Kattowice (KTW) service from DTM to AFAIK 9 flights per week, i.e. we will see two daily flights on some days.

Mmm that's quite a lot, considering the daily U2 flight DTM-KRK. I saw Sky Europe also dropped WAW-AMS. Also because of the high fees?

Not just because the fees. Polish airport authorities are making it extra hard for new airlines to operate from WAW. There has been an issue with gates at the low-cost terminal "Etiuda". SKY, WIZZ and Germanwings all accused airport authorities of favorizing LOT, and their low cost Centralwings. Also Brand New terminal is being built in WAW, however it was discovered few months ago, that it will not maintain standards, and many airlines (including legacies) wrote a protest to authorities saying they will not be able to operate out of this terminal efficiently! Basically waste of many millions of $$$.
But them fees is mainly whats killing LCC. Especially noise fees after 22.00 Ohh, in order to pay for this failure of terminal WAW added 24$ to every pax ticket departing WAW!!

These are interesting cases, where certain governement regulations are there to favor the legacy airline. It seems like good for LOT, but on the other hand, I imagine that there are many people traveling to Katowice to take the low cost flights. And they lose the tourists determining their vacation destinations by taking the LCC-route maps to other Polish destionations...

Is there any (possible) alternative airport for WAW?

Gdansk, Wroclaw, Krakow, Poznan, but one can hardly call an alternative. It will take a few hours to get to Warsaw from any of these cities. Poland does not have any freeways, and railroad is horrible. Welcome in new EU Smile
