TG 790 appears to have landed at 1:14 AM, hours ahead of the scheduled time of 6:35....I guess they must have had great winds. Anybody know how they are doing on loads?

Wow they might not loose as much money as they projected..

Do they have to "repay" this in Headwinds on the return...Good Luck to them, for trying something new...not Always easy in a Government (Military) run operation...

Flight tracker has the flight as landed at 1:14am.
Thai
Flight Number 790 (TG790)
Departure
Airport: BKK
Scheduled Time: 12:40 AM, May 03
Actual Time: 12:50 AM, May 03
Arrival
Airport: New York (Kennedy), NY
Scheduled Time: 6:35 AM, May 03
Actual Time: 1:14 AM, May 03
Status: Landed
Equipment: A345

I don't know why FLIFO hasn't updated the arrival time yet, possibly the set up to get the info into TG's flight info system isn't in place yet.

No they do not have to. Pockets of jet streams (as these high speed winds are called) are only found in the Northern Hemisphere at certain times of the year. And they are westerly in direction during winter or something to that effect. So they would probably fly over the Atlantic one way, and over the Pacific on the return just to ride the stream.

Excuse me, but if this was true then they would have broken the soundbarrier... Being 5 hours early on a 15 hour flight.... Mach 1.4 ?

What might have happened is that the system is showing the ETA for the "destination" originally listed in the flight plan - the time should update once the flight plan is re-filed for JFK.

Wow, that couldn't have been too convenient for the pax to arrive at 1:14 AM... Is it possible, with proper winds, for groundspeed to break the sound barrier?

Airspeed and Groundspeed are different. But yeah 5 hours early seems a little unbelievable.

It's either a time conversion issue or else the flight crew re-filed the flight plan en route.

That looks like they were 20 minutes early and someone screwed up and crossed Zulu (GMT) with Local (EDT). Hence, the 5 hour difference

It's really cool that 3 A345 operators fly them into the New York Area now... that makes 3/4... SQ, EK, TG (out of SQ, EK, TG, AC). ^__^

About how long had the 345 been airborne when you snapped that photo? It's a beautiful shot!

I've heard that if the flight is getting good tail winds, the flight crew will reduce power to conserve fuel while maintaining a constant groundspeed. Makes sense given today's fuel costs.
