More constructions an London Heathrow?
I thought that T5 was the only construction area.

It it a new extension of Terminal 3?

Yeah, its the A380 pier. 4 stands that take either 1 A380 each OR two A32x types side by side!

Cheers

I was reading about this in a British aviation magazine and I was pretty impressed how they would implement this. But one thing though: will the new gates at Terminal 3 support dual-level jet bridges?

I believe so, or at least some gates will. There is a lot of expansion planned for T3, not in small part due to the need to fully seperate arriving and departing passengers, something which is not happening at present.

Isn't LHR going to be an A380 mecca? Are four stands going to be enough?

I think it's the satellite from LGW south terminal that was retrofitted to this end. Before, when you disembark, you travel through the departure area to the monorail. I think the last time I was there, they put in a glass wall round the circumference for arriving passengers.

So who will get to use those gates first? SQ,VS,QR,EK,TG...?

Will the gates on be for a single airline eg. VS or for mixed airlines?

Depends on who's paying for them I guess. I would imagine that only the airlines that intend to use the A380 would be paying for upgrades to accomodate it else it wouldn't be fair.

There will be some A380 stands at T5, and at least two gates at T4 will be modified for the A380 as well.

I understand everyone pays for improvements - not just airlines who benefit.

A good example is T5 which is being paid for, essentially, by all airlines, not just BA.

Having flown back into LHR T3 Monday night I can confirm there is certainly no segregation of arriving and departing passengers at present.

T5 is a little different because by moving BA ops to T5, others will inherit the remainder of the airport. I remember something about NZ refusing to pay for upgrades to accomodate the A380 that would only benefit their competitors.

Not trying to be smart but Pier 5 is segregated, admittedly its the only bit that is at the moment.

OK...I flew into/out of Pier 6 with SK. I flew out/in Pier 5 with GF a few weeks ago but have to admit, despite noticing that that the pier was fairly newly refubished, didn't spot passengers mixing in/outbound. It was very obvious that this happened though in Pier 6 and 7 as we kept crossing paths!

Who will occupy T4, once BA moves to its new home?

This subject has been discussed quite a lot recently in the forum. Try searching for the threads. It seems that to some extent the jury is still out but VS are keen to stay put.
