AEP Finally A Regional Airport!

This week was special for AEP Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Ciudad de Buenos Aires due the begining of new facilities and remodelation of the terminal and new sourronding infrastructure.
This US$ 520M invest will be help the goal of Buenos Aires City Goverment and AA2000 private airport operator wich is make AEP able to operate flights to boundaries destinations.
Finally SCL-AEP-SCL (and why not ASU GIG) will be a real and daily option for those travel to Buenos Aires for bussines within the day. Or whoever wants to avoid the 50 minutes trip from EZE to downtown Capital Federal.
This is a very happy news! AEP one of the most amazing airport IN-THE-HEART of a city in the world!!! without a doubt.

For many years i´ve been trying to get the attention of this issue. Finally is true.... i just CANT HARDLY WAIT to buy my tkt to AEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But i must wait to mid2006.

Very good news!

You are perfect when said that EZE main problem is the distance between the Airport and Buenos Aires downtown area. If airport authorities authorizes the operation of part of the Brazil-Argentina traffic probably the A320, 737-700 and 737-300 can start service to AEP. The only problem is that it will need a new staff (if this information can be used by Gol for example before they establish EZE-GRU-GIG, they can start the service at AEP which gives Gol a strong advantage) while they cannot reduce structure at EZE.
AEP face the same situation as CGH/GRU. The difference is that AEP can handle the domestic traffic and part of the international. If part of traffic comes to AEP, in a few years people will prefer to flight MAD-MVD and after take a flight MVD-AEP for convenience and due to the lack of connections at EZE.
Can it take place ? How many slots and which destinations can be operated from/to AEP ?

Where are they going to get the space for the expansion?.

I went to AEP 5 years ago and it looked quite tight and short of space at the terminal's side. However, it looked quite spacious in front...where the hangars are.

Are they planning to extend the runway as well?
