I am debating whether to fly OAK-SLC n/s or going via LAX. The reason I would like to go via LAX is to see some exotic carriers. My question is, on a Sunday Afternoon at around 5 PM, will there be anything exotic to view at LAX (QF, TN, AI, etc.)?

You will see a number of exotic carriers then. Most of the European flights depart in the late afternoon and early evening from LAX 3-7pm range. You will miss the Asian flights since they all leave around lunch time. You will see the QF/NZ birds waiting at remote stands, but they don't leave until night. I would say that taking a walk and looking near TBIT would be interesting with most of the European carriers there along with Varig, NZ, AI if you are there long enough. And if you have time going to the burger joint off the north runways or imperial hill can be fun. LAX is fun at almost any time of the day.

Well, how tight is the connection? I'm guessing you are flying SW, so you will have to go to Terminal 2 or Terminal 5 to see "exotic" carriers - You may have to go through security again, so I don't know if you can pass into the gate area w/ a SW boarding pass

Dude, take the NS save some time.

I have a fairly long connection,(around 4 hours) I can arrange, but I'll be taking UAX. I would like to see some of the euro carriers, so, I imagine I'll be taking it through LAX.

You could go walk around the terminals at LAX which might be fun. You could go grap dinner at the In N Out burger place too which is will be a fun afternoon of about 2 horus. The LAX terminals are great because you can really be up close to the planes while you are walking around the ticketing drive. Also UAX is good since terminal 7 security isn't very crowded in the evenings, so you should have no problem leaving, wandering around and then coming back. It might be fun!
