I will be flying from OKC-HKG on United May 20, and returning May 25. On the outbound, it is OKC-DIA-LAX-HKG, then on the inbound it is HKG-SFO-DIA-OKC. Can anyone tell me how the United service is on these flights? How about their 744's?

Can't speak about the service on this flight... My only two United flights have been LAX-HNL and HNL-SFO. The HNL-SFO flight was, however, on a 744, so I can tell you about them. This is what I have to say... United's 744s are extremely uncomfortable. The HNL-SFO flight was only about 4 hours, but I was in such pain when we landed after having been cramped into the small space they provided. My legs were pressed firmly into the seat ahead of me for the entire flight, and, despite the 744s large size, the aircraft seemed very small and cramped. The flight attendants on my 744 fight, however, were very nice.

I haven't took this trans-pacific route before but last year, on UA's connecting from HKG-BKK(when they are still here), it connects passenger from LAX to BKK and I took HKG-BKK and I think their 747-400s are EXTREMELY uncomfortable and although that's only a 2-hour-long flight but I feel very uncomfortable during the flihgt such that I am quiet short.

I've flown ORD-NRT-ORD with them on the 747-400. I was in the upper deck both directions (business class). Up there it is very nice with good F/As and good food.

I won't fly United if i were you.
United have really bad service when compared to most airlines I had flown with. I flew the HKG-ORD-HKG twice, both were disastrous.
Good Luck.

Well, I usually fly american. I am a college student, so I try to keep the expense down. American was quoting me a fare of 2100USD, changing to Cathay Pacific or JAL at Osaka. United was only 938USD. So, I thought I would take the cheaper flight.

Oh my God, where did you get that $2100 AA fare quote from??
Anyway, if you are stuck with UA on the trans-Pacific segment, try to get a seat row just behind an exit door. You'll have unlimited legroom, not to mention ease of entry/exit to stretch your legs during the LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNG LAX-HKG sector.

I got the fare quote from AA themselves. What the deal was, they ran out of seats that were the LOW fare economy. The low economy on AA was 1100USD, but they didnt have any of those seats available. So, United was my best bet. Plus, it would mean only having to go through customs once. Also, I have been on AA transpacific on their 777, but I have never flown on ANY 747, and the 400 is the ULTIMATE airplane to me. It has always been my dream to fly on one, so Im excited, and I dont mind the tight squeez, but I may after that long of a flight. BTW, what is the length in hours from LAX to HKG? Is it longer than the DFW-NRT? I have done that before.

LAX-HKG is certainly longer than DFW-NRT. According to UA and AA's websites, the distance between DFW-NRT is 6427 miles, while LAX-HKG is 7246 miles. Expect a little over 15 hours for LAX-HKG.
I don't quite understand what you mean by going through customs twice. Are you referring to the connection in Japan if you fly AA? If you are merely connecting to another flight, you don't have to clear customs in Japan at all, since you are not officially entering Japan. Just stay in the departure lounge!! Even if you need to go to a different terminal, there are special transit provided for airside passengers.
By the way, have you considered flying CX out of LAX or SQ out of SFO? Both of them fly 744's and I bet the service will be better.

I'll tell you when I get back on the 23rd, UAL747!
I'll be flying (hopefully) UA 805 SFO-HKG and return, but I'll probably be flying (once again) on UA 853 to NRT connecting to CX 507 or UA 801 and return.
