1. Simply wondering what SWA's longest route is.

2. As a second part of this question; has SWA ever had a longer scheduled route?

3. How many 737-700s are still painted in the old SWA paint scheme? Or, how many are in the new?

The opinions I post are of mine and mine alone, not of the airline I work for.

SWA doesn't and never has operated PHX-TUS.

I believe the current shortest route is AUS-HOU. And for a while it was ISP-PVD with four flights a day until that route was dropped a couple of years ago.

WN flies to Tucuman, Argentina?  Smile WN's shortest route for a while was ISP-PVD. I believe that the ISP-PVD flight was discontinued a while back. Don't know what their current shortest flight is.

Don't know the exact number of 73Gs painted in the desert colors still, but we see a few of them per day here in DAL.

The shortest route is DAL-DFW, towing a 'Ha-Ha! We Won't Fly Here' banner as it cruises overhead.

The answer to the first question is available in Southwest's fact sheet at http://www.southwest.com/about_swa/press/factsheet.html:

"The shortest daily Southwest flight is between Austin (AUS) and Houston (HOU) (149 miles). The longest daily Southwest flight is between Philadelphia (PHL) and Oakland (OAK) (2,510 miles)."

I'm fairly certain that PHL-OAK is the longest-ever scheduled WN route, since the old record-holder was BWI-SJC. The shortest-ever in recent memory was PVD-ISP, though for some reason I think they flew HOU-BPT at some point when they still served BPT.

Southwest never operated HOU-BPT. Only BPT route was DAL-BPT.

They have operated the following:

LBB-MAF at 121 miles
TUL-OKC at 111 miles
IAH-HOU at 24 miles

The LBB-MAF was a "tail end" of a flight that went DAL-LBB-MAF on, as I recall, friday and Sunday nights only.

TUL-OKC was a "triangular" shaped flight from those two OK cities to out west somplace...PHX or Vegas.

IAH-HOU was a once daily flight where they originated at Hobby but still wanted to give IAH passengers a decent morning flight up to Love Field....it left HOU at 715, arrived IAH 730, left IAH 745, and got to Love Field at 835.

I believe at one time they operated LAX-ISP, for a temporary period only and was never intended to be a permanent route. It was after the first 73Gs came online and it was a test to see how people would respond to transocn service Southwest style. Dennis Miller even made a joke about it on his HBO show.

I don't recall a LAX-ISP, but a BWI non-stop to either LAX or OAK when the -700s first came out, right around Thanksgiving 1997.

Thanks. It probably was BWI then. I wasnt for sure if it was even ISP. I just remember a something about a temporary nonstop transcon out of LAX. Heck, was ISP even Southwest destination then yet?

WN still operates BWI-LAX nonstop. According to their website, it looks like two a day.

Flt. 71 9:20am-12:10pm
Flt. 2968 6:30pm-9:20pm

and return

Flt. 1034 8:25am-4:20pm
Flt. 72 11:50am-7:50pm
