A Japan Airlines Boeing 747-400, operating flight JL047, en route from New York's JFK Airport to Tokyo's Narita Airport was forced to make an emergency landing at Sapporo's Chitose Airport on the island of Hokkaido yesterday shortly before 1400 after the air pressure in the cabin started to lower. The aircraft was flying at 33.000 feet and made a descent to 9.900 feet with oxygen masks released. Also on Sunday another JAL flight from Nagoya to Manila was rerouted to Osaka's Kansai Airport after its altimeter malfunctioned.
