Hawaiian has cleared their last hurdle to exit bankruptcy. The pilots have ratified a new contract, fulfilling the RC Aviation's requirement of having all unions under new contracts. The courts already have given their tentative approval, dependent on all unions agreeing to new contracts.

This is good news, especially in light of the bad news lately at UA.
Looks like HA used bankruptcy court the correct way. They went in, they got a plan, executed it, and they are flying higher now. I certainly respect the HA managment for not milking the bankruptcy process dry. Good job to the HA employees for agreeing to pay cuts while their airline is in trouble.

Hawaiian Airlines, is an example for what an airline can do, and can become! Great for Hawaiian Airlines! The employees at Hawaiian Airlines, are great, personable, and service oriented!

Great for HA! I did enjoy them the one rime I flew to Hawaii with them, and the many inter island trips I have done. Perhaps they will soon acquire some more long-haul equipment (not too soon just coming out of bankruptcy) to continue expansion. Maybe some used 763s, the 787 perhaps? (Again, way too soon to speculate accurately)

I think the plan is for a few more 763's for now to add long haul capacity, primarily Australia either via SYD or into MEL. That's the message we are getting down here anyway, that they want a daily connection into HNL from Australia via either/or SYD & MEL.

Quoting Kahala777 (Reply 6): MEL, ORD, DFW, and JFK are all in Hawaiian Airlines sights! Or so the rumor goes!
I used to work at HA and at least of those destinations were very close to happening back in 2001. In fact, I heard that 1 of those destinations was supposed to be announced a couple of days after Sept. 11, but the terrorist attacks cancelled those plans.

It's well known that HA has been looking for more aircraft, especially 767s, to expand service.

At least some airline has some good news. From what I hear, over the last year or two that tourism, especially from Japan has come back. Hawaii is still a popular destination for many Americans too. With HA in a state of recovery, expanding access to Australia and beyond the west coast of the mainland USA, then their future looks good. Seems like someone is doing something right and used bankruptcy right.

Not to take anything away from HA, but in all fairness, HA is a fraction of UA's size and complexity. Congratulations for HA. Well Done, but dude don't try to make the comparison - it just doesn't hold up.

I read nothing about a comparison between HA and UA in his statement. He's just congratulating the company on a successful emergence from Bankruptcy.
Something we all feel and wish for everybody out there in a crisis now. Which is just about everybody. My company included.

You seem to forget that Hawaiian Airlines has taken a very hefty bite out of United Airlines loads to and from Hawai'i. Less we mention that at the time Hawaiian Airlines converted from the DC-10 and started running their 767-300 to LAS, PHX, SMF, PDX, SEA, SAN, SFO, LAX, PPT, and so forth, United was dropping their widebodied fleet to Hawai'i left and right! When was the last time that United Airlines had a 747-400 scheduled from LAX, or SFO to HNL? Answer, at least not in the past 4 years!
United Airlines, has had to drop a lot of the widebodies and concentrate on service with the 757-200 in many cases. A 777 to ORD, SFO, and LAX is nothing when compared to the sheer numbers of passengers Hawaiian is now bringing through Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Hawai'i on a daily basis. That actually is very sad, since United Airlines was at one time along with Pan Am, the airline to fly to Hawai'i! Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines, who are partners to Hawaiian Airlines have added, while United has dropped service!
Hawaiian Airlines, may not be the size of United Airlines, but Hawaiian Airlines has proved that even being little, you can overcome the big guy. Should we get started on the fact that United Airlines dropped Honolulu to Sydney, and Hawaiian Airlines is doing great on that route. Even looking at adding a Melbourne flight as well? Remember on Hawaiian you have friendly Flight Attendants that treat you like Ohana! On United Airlines you have bitter Flight Attendants and grumpy passengers that are upset their flight to Hawai'i has been turned into a nightmare!

Am glad to see everything has turned out good for Hawaiian. Good job to all the employees who make it possible and make it one of Americas best airline.

Great news to read! Now will be the time to plan wisely on new routes, more jets, and more staff. Be curious to see if they pick up any 762s for less popular routes like SMF. Will also be curious to see if frequencies to LAX, SFO, and SEA are increased.
