AF - Which Number To Call For Phone Check-in

Another good one from Air France, but maybe someone can give me the answer to this one:

AF has a phone check-in, where you can check-in for certain flights leaving from or to France. The number to use from France is 0897 650 820. Thus, from abroad it is +33-897 650 820.

Now here's the joke: the number works fine from France. From abroad, it is *technically* possible to call that number, i.e. one does *not* get a message from the phone company like "this number is not reachable". But it's much better: upon calling +33-897 650 820, there is a pre-recorded message from Air France saying that this number is no longer in use and that instead one should call +33-897 650 820 - WHICH IS THE NUMBER I JUST CALLED!!!  banghead  banghead  banghead  banghead  banghead

I know that Air France's internal "Committee for making air travel unnecessarily complicated" has produced some wild things, but this one is really a highlight.

Only question is: which number can I call to do a phone check-in?

PS: and please don't tell me to do internet check-in. I tried that, it doesn't work for 1 out of 2 times, and it just happens not to work for this particular flight I am taking.

Right, there it says that it's only available from France, but the funny thing is that when you call the server, it also gives you info on the flights leaving from abroad...

Why on earth is AF unable to offer a *functioning* phone and web check-in like other major airlines????

Fear of the unions probably. The moment the ground staff sense they are likely to be replaced by helpful, efficient and friendly kiosks, bam - On Est En Greve !!

LOL!!! So true!

But you know, to make sure that doesn't happen, there are rarely more than 50%-60% of kiosques that actually work...
