We were driving(yuk!) home from a weekend in Puerto Penaso(Rocky Point) Mexico. I believe we drove past PPE. There appeared to be a building under construction.

Other than the ancient pages out there, I still can't find any real information about the airport.

I did catch this little phrase on a PPE real estate page. PPE real estate

"Commercial Lot ... Near the Airport which will be expanding in the near future"

Are they developing the airport there in any way?

I counted at least four new beach-front resorts going up. One has to wonder when the govt there will get on the ball and put some money into the airport.

I don't know, but my dream of late has been to buy a Pilatus PC-12 and start daily nonstop service between PHX and PPE.  Smile

Wow! One would think this airport is some sort of Mexican 'Area 51'. Info is almost nonexistant and people here know nothing.

Would your costs be lower than Westwind air Service using a Cessna Grand Caravan?

Well, ok. I guess I'm going to answer my own question. I found this blurb

The Rocky Point airport is targeted for a $1 million runway extension and new terminal, and a new airport capable of landing commercial jets is planned for about 2008.

PPE is currently under expansion (runway and terminal). No big deal but government is investing money at the airport and region.

Aerolitoral has plans for new flights with Saab340s/EMB145, including PPE-LAX PPE-GDL PPE-HMO. PPE-MTY. AM has showed also interesting for flying MEX-PPE with MD87/B737.

But why 2008? I know it doesn't take that long to build a terminal in Mexico.

Is the current runway in PPE capable of handling larger jets or will a whole new runway be needed? And what's up with not having aviation fuel onsite in PPE?

I was hoping for some PHX-PPE service by HP. I would be in rocky point all the time.

The old Arizona Airways used to have flights from PHX to PPE...not commercially successful at the time would be my guess.

Never heard of PPE. But I'm sure CO Express will be sending its ERJs down there in no time.  Wink

My goodness, whatever would local police departments along the route to Rocky Point do for funding if everyone flew there?

No more speed traps to line their pockets!
