Hi!
Congratulations KLM!!!!! I've already "paid" my tributes 2 weeks ago..... I had to do a trip from LIS to KIX via AMS and the airline was KLM. It was with great joy that I got in the KLM planes again after 25 years... ( can you imagine that?!?! ).
What can I say about KLM? Well KLM is one of those classic airlines that have their trademark and you can be anywhere in the world you can find out the "blue" airline there! My father used to work in the catering department at LIS airport and since I was a kid I remember seeing KLM airplanes, my first recall was for the good old DC-8, then latter it came the DC-8-63 and the DC-9 at the same time, we could see the regular AMS/LIS flight operated with the DC-9 and the South American flight operated with the Super Sixty, latter KLM upgraded this flight with the DC-10-30 ( one of the first airlines to fly the DC-10 to LIS ) and kept the DC-9 from AMS. One season I remember that KLM replaced the DC-9 with the DC-8-63 and it was the best way to see most of their DC-8 fleet in LIS, also from time to time we could see some KLM cargo DC-8-50's doing some flights. The 747 was not regular but I recall at least in few ocasions seeing them in LIS. Later I lost track a bit what KLM operated in LIS but I know that after the DC-9 they started to use the 737-300, 400, then they came with the MD11 and the 767-300, now they used the 737-800 and 900. So KLM has been always popular in LIS. Last 25th. April I flew from LIS to AMS on PH-BXF, then from AMS to KIX on the brand new 777-200ER PH-BQE, returning from KIX to AMS I flew 747-400 PH-BFA ( first 744 in Europe... ) and ended in the evening with another 737-800 PH-BXM. All great flights, great service, great crews so what do I need more? Nothing, KLM is one of those airlines that you never mind to fly!!!! I hope I can get back to them in the future!
regards

Congratulations to KLM, I am sure we will see their distinctive blue aircraft in the skies for many years to come.
My very first flight was on a KLM DC-8-62 from YYZ to AMS in July 1970.A very excited 12 year old, it started my life long love of aviation. I still have the copy of the flight plan the crew handed out to the passengers as well as other souvenirs from the aircraft. A very memorable experience.

Many happy returns KLM.
Well done, still sorry that you always substituted a 737 for the F28 any time I looked forward to trying that elusive aircraft.
Many more years of health, happiness and success to all at KL.

Congratulations to KLM. May your blue birds continue to grace the skies for many years to come.
I took KLM on my first transatlantic flight in 1995 from JFK-AMS on a 747 connecting to TXL. Unfortunately, I don't recall what equipment was used on my flight from AMS-TXL. What a great airline and I hope to use them again.

My first memory of flying was on a KLM 747 way back in 1981. Seeing that big, blue jet was the beginning of my love affair with aviation. Since then, have flown with them countless times, and they will always continue to be my most favourite airline, regardless of who they were bought out by, or behind the scenes business deals... one thing will always stay the same, KLM ROCKS!

Happy Birthday KLM and another great 85 years to you. As a NWA Platinum elite I have the pleasure of flying KLM more than 10-12 times a year. Always nice to see their blue birds. Keep up the good work!

Hmm to my best knowledge they made a mistake on there website which says the first Fokker F2 was ordered in 1921 however the F2 was build in 1918-1919 ?
Does someone have the exact data ?

As a regular flyer on KLM, I appreciate their intelligent scheduling and continued overall competence although I have never figured out what the hell KLM stands for.

Congratulations for my favorite airline in the whole world!!!!! Congrats for that 85 years of great history, accomplishments, but downfalls as well. Great work done by the KLM staff all these years. Happy next decades and good luck to Leo, one of the best CEO´s out there in these days. Congrats also for the greatly done merger with AF. Congrats for your new planes, and how awesome they look in their blue livery.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it above, but what about those ceramic windmills filled with liquor that KLM used to pass out. I have a full collection of them some where, but never drank the liquor. Has anyone tried it? Just curious.
Seriously, traveled KLM a ton since the early 80's and have always thought they had great service and in general were a "classy" airline. There was a time that some routes would be served by both NW and KLM planes. I would always try and get on the KLM plane. Looking forward to flying them again.
