The new SkyLink train at DFW airport is now open! This new train system will connect passengers at the airport within 5 minutes to any terminal. They will certainly provide a good view of the tarmac.

Top speed along the tracks will be 35 miles per hour! Should make for a swift ride.  Smile

We know for you it's not just a seat on a flight to a place. It's a seat on a flight to your life.

An excerpt from an article on it this morning...

What's going to happen to the old train?

There are actually two train systems at D/FW. The original train– which opened in 1974 – has been for employee use only since 2003. The American Airlines TrAAin, which opened in 1991, will stand ready to use for about a month in case there are hiccups with Skylink.

After that, the old guideway for both routes will be demolished and the trains will be auctioned along with other surplus airport equipment.

No. It was decommissioned this morning at 4:30 a.m. It will continue to stay operationally read (but not in regular use) as a backup for about the next 60-90 days while the SkyLink gets all the kinks worked out, at which time it will be completely shut down once and for all.

Woo hoo! I will be so happy to see the entire old DFW Train/trAAin completely dismantled.
I love the look of the SkyLink, I'll have to go to the airport early on Monday so I can ride it.  hyper

That makes millions of us! Yes, I am going to be very glad to see that rickety piece of crap sold for scrap and replaced with an airport train befitting a world class airport like DFW. That being said, as crappy as the DFW Trains were, they did serve DFW fairly reliable (about 98-99% dispatch reliability) for 30 years.
