On April 11, there were five (!) Air Rum L1011 at Fujairah, three with ex Orient Thai colors, one in white with the flower on the tail, and the yellow one.

Two are on this pic:

Their website states that they are available to operate Hajj Pilgramage charters to Mecca in Saudia Arabia.

Fair enough.

But with the name "AIR RUM"?

Alcohol?

Islam's Holiest Day? A religon fobidding the consumption of alcohol?

Am I missing something?
Does Rum translate into something else in Arabic?

They say they fly to ginea besaw. I thought it was Guinea Bissau?

Read the letter from the CEO. They do "something to their passengers between their hands". And they state they are good at "height"?
I try to give small airlines like this the benefit of the doubt, but some of their text was such nonsensical jibberish, I closed the window thinking, "Why even bother?!"

In an amusing side, they state they fly to the "Kingdome of Saudi Arabia"
(King Dome was once a 60,000 seat covered stadium in Seattle that they bulldozed to make room for a new facility, just in case some of you didn't know)

They also proclaim they will fly you to ANYWHERE in the world, except North and South America and Australia. (?)

Maybe the name is taken from the famous Wadi Rum in Jordan?

If I hadn't seen the photographs of the aircraft, I would have thought that website was a p**s-take created by some enthusiast for a laugh. Or a virtual airline or something like that. Interesting, to say the least.

I know not everyone can be expected to speak or write English, but seriously... when you read some of that, it just sounds unprofessional. It seems someone's written something in their own language and just bunged it into an online translator, then copied and pasted it.

ex Orient Thai L10-11s

The correct designation is L-1011

On the basis of that website, probably not.

EDIT... having said that, they have bothered to put a "Safety/Reliability" page on their website, and that does offer a great deal of reassurance. So I take that back... maybe I would trust them!

One or two of the 1011's look very familiar to one I have seen at TUS a couple of years ago in Air Cambodia livery. Nice to see they have fitted the missing parts......

On the first question : NO

See this link on their website for the explanation of the name "Air Rum".
Nothing to do with alcohol

http://airrum.com/OurLogo.aspx

The black iris is the national flower of Jordan. They don't seem to have painted this logo on the L1011's that appear in reply 2

In the photo there seems to be some damage at the base of 9L-LFC's rudder and also possibly more than just dirt at the base of 9L-LEU's rudder.

I was also baffled about the section of the website headed "Aircraft". The Lockheed section was clear enough, but "Airbus" and "Boeing" ?.

Incidentally I was surprised at the amount of detail about their L1011 fleet.
Presumably 9L-LDV will be down for a C Check shortly.

You know you're flying a dodgy airline when they fly Orient Thai rejects.  Smile
