A.net newsletter this morning had the following article...

Paris World's Most Important Air Connection Point -Study
Nasdaq - Global Markets (US) [More from source], posted 3 hours 36 min 53 sec ago. [Find similar stories]

which was about the importance of particular cities as connecting points serving the most possible routings from point A to point B in the world. ANYway, it makes the following rather odd assertion...

"A traveler can get from any of the cities to any other with an average of 4.4 flights, and more than half the communities are connected with four flights or fewer, the researchers found.

The most difficult air route? Getting from Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands to Wasu, Papua-New Guinea, requires 15 flights."

15 flights ? I have my doubts - I've found an itinerary from Mount Pleasant as far as Lae in 5 flights (MPN-SCL-AKL-BNE-POM-LAE), so I doubt very much that it takes a further 10 flights to get from Lae to Wasu.

So if the claim of this article is bollocks (as clearly it is), what routing in the world DOES require the most flights, and how many ?

Are you factoring in direct flights that have one or more hidden stops? This is very common in South America.

I'm not counting en-route stops with no change of flight-number - I don't know what the article counts as a "flight" - to me a flight is getting on a plane at one end and getting off the other.
