AA Eagle: ORD-SAV, MIA-DAY/GSO

Eagle additions to be loaded in SABRE this Sunday:

ORD-SAV from 2 July 05 (2 daily ERJ-140s)
MIA-DAY from 1 Aug 05 (1 daily ERJ-135)
MIA-GSO from 1 Aug 05 (1 daily ERJ-135)

Also, AA's BOS-MAN service is being extended about a month from 15 Dec 05 to 9 Jan 06 and AA's MIA-MAN service is being reduced to 5x weekly between 9 Jan 06 and 3 April 06.

Awesome news. With the additions, AA will offer service from Miami to 100 cities! 97 non-stop, two codeshare (Seattle and Zurich), and one one-stop (Asuncion). Won't be long before they reach the 100 mark without the addition of codeshares and one-stops.

Too bad, but this should help the weak yields on the route (excellent loads, but not yields). The odd thing about this is that Feburary/March is the busiest time of the year for this route.

Also, Miami-Birmingham will be the next new American Eagle route from MIA, supposedly, launching in October. Also being planned are Greer, Pensacola, a return to Savannah, Mobile, Knoxville, and Lexington (depending on how well Delta does on FLL-LEX; so far it is looking good).

They also are looking at Ottawa, Stewart, Milwaukee, Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse, but they need CRJ-700s for these, and don't have them to dedicate to these flights at this time, so these services are long-term future plans.

Not surprised to see these launched. In December 2004, Delta launched...

FLL-DAY, AA launches MIA-DAY in August
FLL-SDF, AA launches MIA-SDF in June
FLL-ORF, AA launches MIA-ORF in June
FLL-GSO, AA launches MIA-GSO in August
FLL-RIC, AA went double-daily on MIA-RIC in May
FLL-BHM, AA will be launching MIA-BHM this fall
FLL-PNS, rumoured to be coming this December
FLL-CHS, AA doesn't fly to CHS

About damn time... Smile Any possibility of this being an early AM departure, to connect with AA Caribbean service?? I would think we could support this market with two ERJ-135's a day.

It will connect with one of the two Caribbean banks..the morning bank or the late afternoon bank, but which one, I don't know yet. The morning bank would provides far more connecting oppurtunities, but AA can't connect all the flights to it because of aircraft allocation.

Though, just a side note, while I do say MIA-BHM will be launched with quite certainty, it is still subject to change. Nothing is set in stone until the flights are loaded into res systems, but MIA-BHM does seem like a go.

The main domestic growth has been Eagle latley, but PVD is always on the radar, and probably will be until AA finally starts MIA-PVD, hehe.

In terms of mainline domestic growth, AA is looking at six routes strongly right now: daily 738s to Providence, Kansas City, Aguadilla (PR), and San Diego and daily 757s to Phoenix and Seattle. If I were to guess, though, MCI will be the next one.

Also, I forgot on the Eagle list, that daily ERDs to Austin and San Antonio are also in the cards, while OW (Executive Airlines, operating the MIA-based ATRs) is looking at new intra-Florida and Bahamas routes.

Yes. It is also the 2nd largest O&D market from Miami without non-stop service (Buffalo is the largest). Providence is the largest O&D market from Miami that only has service to FLL, and not MIA.

Yes, with the AS flight timed for Caribbean connections as it is during most of the year.

APF (Naples) has been talked about. So have Sarasota, Marathon, Melbourne, Tallahasse, and Daytona Beach. TLH and PNS, however, would be MQ-operated with RJs, from what I have been told. Plans to expand intra-Florida, though, are in very early planning stages. Nothing near as concrete as the MQ expansion through the Southeast/Midwest. It'll be a while before we hear things.

They are looking at San Salvador, where they already offer charter flights, the strongest. A return to Governor's Harbour is being looked at, and so are flights to Treasure Cay. Bahamas expansion relies more on having local resorts say "Hey, come fly to our airport and we'll subsidize your flights" rather than American Eagle route planning.

I have also heard rumblings of 2-3x weekly service to Cayman Brac, which would be awesome. Cayman Airways recently started MIA-CYB Saturday service with their 737s.

SAN: 95 (next to get mainline after PHX?)

PVD: 54 (would seem to be next for a CR7)
BHM: 48 (ERD written all over it)
BUF: 47 (long flight on an ERJ, too thin for mainline, behind PVD w/CR7)
SYR: 38 (see BUF)
ROC: 35 (see SYR)
ALB: 30 (see ROC)
GSP: 25 (1X ER3, could happen before the CR7 cities)
SWF: N/A (ALB is a better choice)

Those all make sense, especially San Salvador with the existing Club Med charters.

With an OW ATR72? Either way, I definitely agree -- MIA-CYB would be great!

It will probably be June or July until AA's full MIA winter schedule is loaded into CRS systems, but as of now, all I can say with certainty is that this weekend Eagle will load a single daily ERJ-135 into the schedules starting 1 Aug. Whether the frequency or aircraft on the route will change for winter -- which is entirely possible -- we probably won't know for a few months.

Just side note, though, that those are MIA only, not FLL/PBI. Real market size is determined by using the three combined, especially FLL, because FLL is the main domestic airport.

GSO/ORF/SDF may all get second dailies in the winter.

If AA/Eagle don't add these cities to MIA, they might eventually lose out to the LCC's in these markets to a nearby airport (FLL, PBI, even MCO). In YOW's case CanJet is launching a weekly year-round YOW-MCO flight starting next week. This is YOW's first ever year-round service to Florida. YOW could easily support a daily CR7 to MIA (and DFW too) with all the connections that are offered there. But the problem of course is the lack of available CR7s.

Come on AA mainline pilots, get with the economic realities of aviation in North America nowadays. Allow Eagle to fly as many 70 seaters as is economically viable. If only they would realize that this has the potential to provide for so much more additional feed to mainline flights.

I wonder if AA management could get around the 25 70-seater aircraft scope cluase by allowing AA Connection carriers to fly some 70 seat aircraft???

If you don't piss off the AA pilots by flying 70-seaters in the first place, you piss off the Eagle pilots even more by allowing Connection to fly it!

On an unrelated note: both MIA-DAY and MIA-GSO will, indeed, be with ERJ-140s and SAV-ORD will be with ERJ-145s. My apologies on my earlier mistake!

YOW-DFW's O&D is quite decent. A daily flight could probably fill 1/3 to 1/2 of the aircraft just on O&D alone. DFW seems like a much better choice to connect to US southwest destinations than ORD. Places like HOU/IAH, SAT, ABQ & AUS come to mind.

Another one that I forgot that is being looked at is MIA-ALB. Pretty decent market too, larger than both Rochester and Syracuse. Two main reasons are the obvious "Southwest effect" and that Albany is the closest airport to Saratoga Springs, which is a popular summer getaway for wealthy Miami residents.

Also, the ERJs can make most of the proposed longer MIA routes (MIA-BUF and MIA-ALB with decent ease), but there would still be some weight issues and the major problem (and this is a problem on MIA-CLE and MIA-PIT, the longest of the ERJ runs from MIA right now) is that many passengers on these flights are going on a cruise, and they pack heavy. Sometimes the luggage doesn't make it with the passengers because of weight issues. The CR7 would elimiate these problems, but MQ obviously needs to put them in more important markets out of Dallas and Chicago, and is limited by scope contracts, and can't buy anymore, so the longer routes are a long ways off, sadly.
