I was wondering where is a good, easy place to go spotting at LAX, and free (where I don't have to pay for parking). I've been at LAX before, but not for spotting reasons exclusively. The closer to the planes, the better. Detailed directions to the spotting areas will be appreciated.

3 places are good. The T3 parking structure allows good views on both sides, particularly the north complex. Imperial Hill and The Proud Bird Restaurant give VERY close up, good views of the South Complex and In and Out at Sepulveda and Lincoln is good for North Complex landings

On Santa Ana wind days, you can get those by In-N-Out and Proud Bird since the take-offs will be to the East.
Otherwise you will get a lot of landing picks, either from underneath of from the backside.

Encounter restaurant (weird building in the middle), west parking lot C, North parking lot B and the in-n-out while eating a double double and animal style fries!

Once you're done at the In-N-Out, head north on Sepulveda and take a right on Manchester until you come to the huge donut in the sky. Randy's donuts are the best I've ever eaten, and you can still watch planes inbound for the 24s.
Try the apple fritter, if you think you're man enough.

Also, if you want the "wayne's world" experience, there is a small park across from In-N-Out where you can lie on a blanket and the jumbos land a couple hundred feet above you. WOOAAAAHHH!
(also, if you don't like In-N-Out, there are plenty of other places to get food and picnic in the park. I do this once in a while. Blimpie down Sepulveda, under the south runways and I105 and past the BofA on the right. It's in a mini-mart, so you can get any picnic supplies you need.
