Sounds great for BE!

Now I'd like to know how long this retrofit will take? Whic types wil go in first (ie 320s, 319s) or will they be randomly refitted as the aircraft are out of service for maintenance? How long will it take, ie how many aircraft per month?

Is there a separate contract for the widebodies?

Slightly more detail can be found in the press release. http://home.businesswire.com/portal/...beanID=1796891643&viewID=news_view

The upgrades are for 143 aircraft and will cover Hospitality and Executive class on the narrow-body fleet and Hospitality for the wide-body fleet. Interestingly it doesn't appear to include the new ExecutiveFirst product.

I'm very surprised that that ExecutiveFirst isn't being upgraded on the widebodies to bring it into line with the A345s. You would think they would want lie-flat seats throughout the system. Perhaps they're just willing to wait until the 777s begin arriving and these may have lie-flats... Maybe this means another contract to be concluded... who knows. But a bad decision in my book. Anyone have any info on the thinking re ExecutiveFirst?

AC has publically stated that all Executive First seating will be upgraded, and it will be to a higher standard to what is in the A345s now. They will be truly lie flat (not angled). I assume that since it wasn't mentioned in this release, that AC is going with a different supplier.

That will put AC is a very select group of airlines, including BA, VS, SA, and soon NZ. We can probably expect truly flat from SQ soon as well. So maybe AC is becoming a world class international airline! Big grin

Is there another airline that uses these seats? (So I can browse for a pic to see what they look like)

I don't know how the upgrade can include the widebody economy class and total 143. If I total the A32xs, the Embraers, and the CRJ-705s I get a number very close to 143 but when I throw widebodies into the math the only way I can get near 143 is to take the Embraers and CRJ-705s out and put the 767s in while still keeping the A330s and A340s out. Does anyone know for certain what aircraft are covered by the deal?

I'm pretty sure all narrowbodies are included in the contract. I believe the widebody contract has not yet been signed. But B/E will provide the seats for hospitality class on widebodies. The manufacturer of the PTVs was not revealed in the articles however. There was also no mention of the ExecutiveFirst seats.

The big question is: Who is going to supply the ExecutiveFirst seat? And what is it going to look like?

I'm guessing that this deal only covers the seat replacements. ie: the new deliveries aren't included in this deal. And I'm not sure that the A330/340 fleet will be getting the upgrade since the B777s start coming online next year.

Malaysia MIGHT be using these (though it might only be for their premium classes), Independence Air is using them, but I can't find any info about their seating on their site.

CX is also rumoured to be testing a truly flat business seat. They have stated that their new longhaul business product will be "revolutionary." This really seems to be the next standard, so I hope AC is going to be one of the carriers that helps raise the bar.

How about the shell flat seats of JAL on certain 3 class configured 744? Isn't that a lie-flat? When I sat on it last time for a domestic run ITM-NRT, I remember being completely flat and dozing off to sleep.
