57 744's...wow, does that make them the largest operator of 744's?

Yes. BA is the world's largest B 747-400 operator. Quite surprised that they don't own any freighters

The BA A320-200 fleet actually stands at 22 (5 A320-211 and 17 A320-232) with 3 A320-232 on order.

The BA 737-436 fleet stands at 18 not 22.

The BA 767-336ER fleet is split between 11 aircraft used on shorthaul and 10 for longhaul, though suggestions this split will change this winter to 7 shorthaul and 14 longhaul.

The BA 777 fleet is split into 3 777-236 (GE engines), 24 777-236IGW (GE engines) and 16 777-236ER (RR engines).

BMED's fourth A320 is due in the next couple of weeks.

The GT A320-232 fleet is actually 10 aircraft, with an A320-211 leased from BA (Currently G-BUSJ).

The GT A321-231 fleet is now consists of 4 aircraft.

Loganair retired the 4 BAe ATPs at the weekend and they are set for return to BA CitiExpress who will maintain them until they return to their lessor sometime during this year.

Loganair only opetrate 4 Islanders now as one was written off in March.

Loganair's SAAB 340 fleet is set to reach 12 examples within the next month or two, and the carrier is also leasing a Dornier 328 from Sun-Air and a Fokker 50 from Denim Air. I'd expect LC to look at acquiring a couple more SAABs this year to allow the leased aircraft to be returned.

Interesting.... So how many altogether?

BA posted the highest gross profit among all airlines in 2004. What about net profit? Are they no 1 as well? Haven't heard anything about BA's net profit in 2004.... Wonder when will they release the figures.

Isn't that awesome that the biggest number of a single kind of plane in the fleet is the number of 747s?

Though recent quotes from BA regarding aircraft orders have suggested that the next order will be a 767 replacement for delivery around 2010, there were suggestions last year that a further shorthaul order, using remaining options for A320 family members, could be made soon to elimininate the 33 737s. Add on to that the 10 CFM powered A320s inherited with the BCal takeover and the 13 757s (Now largely confined to the domestic Super Shuttle routes), and you could be looking at an order for 50-60 aircraft.

Personally though, I think it will be a few months yet before anything happens. BA is still undertaking a full review of shorthaul, which Willie Walsh has supposedly taken an interest in already. This is partly related to the policy introduced by Rod Eddington that all services should deliver a 10% return. As Shorthaul at best is still just breaking even (A big improvement on a few years back though) this suggests something radical could emerge, e.g. single class product from Gatwick, more routes to GB Airways, etc. Also, BA is wanting to reduce turn a round times for aircraft, partly in readiness for the move to T5, but that could increase utilisation and see fewer aircraft needed to maintain the existing flight programme. All in all I think some order will be placed, as BA would benefit from LGW being operated by a single type, either all A319s or A320s, rather than 737-300s, -400s and -500s.

What's the difference between the 777-200IGW and 777-200ER, is it just engine differences or what?

Sorta, but you could argue that the 319-321s are all one type with different variants.

They can order the B 747 Advanced. That will be a capacity increase as well.

Guess they are moving towards an all Airbus narrowbody fleet and an all Boeing widebody fleet.

It is quite good arriving at T4 LHR in the early morning, with all those BA B744s and B777s on the ground, quite an awesome sight.

Yep!Great when about 10 of the fleet taxi out together too  Wink

I work for them , not a bad size fleet for a little country!

Great to be in profit too, after 4 years of REALLY hard work and sacrifice!

Hope we put an order in soon for some more - but it will be a while yet....

Nomenclaure...

The long-ranged 777-200 was launched as the 777-200IGW, but it didn't quite have the marketing appeal as the 777-200ER.

Quoting Airbazar (Reply 12):

They could easily go the 773ER route or even 747-Adv route. They aren't a garunteed shoe-in for the A388 any more than NW is.
