in the past 10 years nothing mayjor has happend at tampa in terms of new airliners comeing in i mean sure we have had southwest take over and the renovations and we have gone from three international flights down to 1 well thats with BA anyways and sadly they changed out there 747's for 777 so theres rarely anything good at tampa. and i think USA does a flight from Gatwick on an a330 not sure though
i love tampa but it been getting quite boring to spot there, anyone know of anything good comeing to tampa, and when do they plan to complete there master plan if ever

I flew quite a bit on the BA777 from LGW to Tampa. And I don't remember of other 777s there. The biggest aircraft after the 777 was probably the 767-400 of Delta, but never saw something really interesting.
I think the BA flight is the only flight from Europe to Tampa, besides charter flights (if there are), even if I'm not sure.
I think there is Orlando that gets most of the flights because of all the tourist attractions, so Tampa suffers for this. But every time I flew into TPA the aircraft (both economy and business class) was full.
I think I've read on here that the only gate for big aircrafts in TPA is the F90, where the BA777 stops (is nice to see the aircraft parked close to the road when leaving the airport). In fact one time a Virgin 747 had to land in TPA instead of MCO for bad weather and they had to wait for the BA777 to leave the gate before they were able to unboard the passengers.
I really would like to see more flights from Europe to Tampa, though
Ciao

i completely agree with you, and about the gates there are 5 gates for international flights or in other words the big birds, and i heard about that virgin atlantic flight just wish i could have seen that. but i think the master plan should be to fly disney closer to tampa so we can get a bigger tourist market but since that isnt happening i dont know, i heard tampa only exsists because of the beaches. well when it comes to tourists

Excellent point. Until last year we had Condor flying nonstop to FRA, but that is gone now as well. I would love to see some new traffic.

Ffis,
I don't think BA ever flew 747's to TPA. Can I suggest spell check before posting a message. Capital letters to begin a sentence wouldn't be a bad idea either!

Hey Bob sorry about the spelling and that but about the 747 yes they did fly in to Tampa, my uncle flew them into Tampa until BA let him go due to his age
Bravo7e7 are you saying we had an international flight to Frankfurt, of all places

Quoting Ffis34 (Thread starter): and i think USA does a flight from Gatwick on an a330 not sure though
Are you saying US flies an A330 from TPA to LGW? There is no US flight to Europe from TPA, nevertheless a US widebody service from TPA, although a couple years ago (I think in 2002 for a month or two), US did fly one TPA-CLT flight on a 762.
Quoting AZA330 (Reply 1): I think I've read on here that the only gate for big aircrafts in TPA is the F90,
All airsides, both old and new, had/have gates that are widebody accessible.
Finally, as far as what the future holds for TPA, things may or may not happen. The competitive dynamics of the airline industry are changing every day, and what worked in the past may or may not work in the future for TPA. There has been on and off talk of bringing a Central American carrier and JM to TPA, but little has materialized. Growth for TPA has accelerated in the past several years, although this is offset by the slight decline in population on the St. Pete/Clearwater side of the bay. According to the Census, growth from 1990 to 2000 in the TPA area only was approximately 8%, but from 2000 to an estimated 2003, that number is 5% and only 3 years into the decade. If the trend continues, this should, economically speaking, lead to more air travel demand and hence more service.

See we need of those DC-10s back at Tampa, ha that would be awesome but most likely wouldn't happen, and I think a lot of places are now considering St Pete vs Tampa due to lower fees but who knows, I really hope we see some a380s in tpa I mean we have to runway for it but I would assume the taxi way would need to be wider, that would be awesome

So you'd rather be like MCO, which has a few more INT'L flights......but NO GOOD SPOTTING?
