I flew Qantas back in September 2004. The service was very good. Also very friendly. Hot food and alcohol are back for domestic flights. So I think they have improved a lot.
CX is no doubt, excellent.
Malaysia Airlines did very well too. And they have been awarded 5 star.

Interesting results I guess...
Firstly, no surprises with CX at all. A very good airline and always will be one of the worlds best.
QF coming in second is a bit of a surprise considering it is in my view no where near the class of service offered by SQ, EK or CX. However a good result for QF and they will hope to build on that reputation now.
EK in third just proves that they are becoming a very good airline regardless of their expansion plans etc. Really the quality of their service is very good.
Thai making it to 7th? Well, personally I don't think they are that good but I guess its the rating system!

Hmmmm , that's not a surprising result , CX deserved first place , TG and MH deserved top notch ! SQ dropped I am not surprised because of the inconsistent reviews about them from my friends I heard. Emirates are still the top airline for me , better then CX after flying with them last year but no comment about Qantas which I hope to fly with them one day.

Please refer to my other thread. Malaysia Airlines is now 5 star.

EK was number 1 back in 2002 and no 2 last year. They dropped to no 3 this year.

Thai is always rated high. Guess they were no 5 last year.
Quoting Qantasflyer (Reply 3): Congratulations QF! They are a great airline find them much better than EK... bit disapointed with the SQ results

I've flown on EK one too many times, from the 1990's to last year (on 1/2 dozen or so routes)..and I've found their service to be going down each year......aside from the prayer room (for Muslims) @ DXB, I'm not too keen on the airport either....
This year, I plan on flying to Pakistan on CX (SFO-HKG-KHI)...it will be my first time on CX and I'm quite excited!!
Lastly, for price/performance, I have to tip my hat to PK (yes, its true...)..while their business class isn't as good as some of the other "top notch" majours such as SQ and CX (but still excellent for even the most demanding business pax), for $2,300 US dollars (including taxes) roundtrip from ORD-KHI...its absolutely amazing! They have brand new 777's and the pilots are very, very good (many of them used to be fighter pilots with the Pakistan Airforce..so they are very skilled).
In fact, I will try to be on the inaugural 777-200LR flight, which will be PK's IAH-LHE/KHI flight...

I am sure their business class is not as good as CX's and SQ's. But how is it like? Do they have PTVs in their B 747-300 economy???? Also B 777?

I can't compare CX with the other listed airlines, but I was very impressed with the service and overall product. Still haven't flown SQ but surprised to see it drop to 4. I always thought SQ, EK and CX were the top 3.

Well done CX and Qantas, but I think SQ should be in the top 3 as well as BA. One thing we and all the thousands of voters in the survey have agreed on is that NONE of the US majors deserve to be anywhere close to the top of any of these lists. This is reflected in the results and, in my opnion, fully justified.

SQ and BA are very top too. No question.
What about Continental? Continental is pretty good I think. They won a few awards this year including a best airline award.

Its interesting to see that star alliance has 3 airlines in that top 7, Oneworld 2, and skyteam with sadly none. Isnt MH supposedly to go to either skyteam or oneworld soon? Its also a testament to the quality of the Star alliance, if you take these surveys w/o a grain of salt, that the best airline in North America (Air Canada) is in the alliance, and the best airline in Africa (SAA) will be shortly.
Is anyone a little confused with the Europe airline rankings? 1) British Airways 2) PGA Portugalia Airlines 3) Finnair ... does it rlly make sense to compare such smaller airlines with the big boys that offer a vast network. I think the network of the airlines should be included in some way in these surveys.

I don't think Emirates is in any alliance.
MH will probably join Skyteam I think. Or have they announced that they will join Skyteam? I WISH they Star or One World.

Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, SAA, Virgin Atlantic etc are all good airlines. A pity that they are not on the list....
Air New Zealand was on the list last year if I remember correctly...... Hope they will be back again once they have started taking deliveries of new aircraft and when they have finished upgrading their long haul product
Quoting Qantasclub (Reply 21): Isn't it the other way round? ie: Oneworld 3 (Qantas, BA and CX) and Star 2 (SQ and TG).
Exactly.
Quoting Hardiwv (Reply 10): FINNAIR 3rd best airline in Europe? Are they crazy?
My parents took Finnair once from Hong Kong to Helsinki via Bangkok. The service was good. Also the food. A pity the luggages were delayed.
From what I heard they have already started Hong Kong-Helsinki nonstop right?
