Wher do you like to sit in the A/c?
My oppinion is:
Short-flights: back in the a/c on the lefthand side.
Longhaul: Back in the a/c on the right hand side.
I like to sit in the back of the a/c because:
-It is more atmosphere (you see all the other pax)
-You can see all the cabin, and the wings
-It's alittle more noysy.
-You hav to walk trough the whole a/c to reach your seat.

I can sit anywhere although in a narrow body aircraft I prefer an aisle seat because I don't have to climb over everyone if I need to take strech or use the bathroom! Normally I like window seats but only if I'm flying in a jumbo jet.
I don't like the middle part of the aircraft since the wing blocks my view outside. You are right that sitting in the back is pretty cool since you can see the flaps adjust on the wing and see the wing bounce!!

Window seats always, but exactly what I'm flying on and how long of a flight are the determining factors. For example, on a 737-200, I will only sit towards the front of the plane, period - even hush-kitted, those P&W's are just too loud in the middle and rear of the plane! For 737-300's & above and A319-320's, short hops I'll sit anywhere, but anything over 2.5 hrs I'll try to get up fron if possible. I've never flown on a 757 where I've been seated after the wings, but in walking around inflight in the back of them, they seem to be pretty quiet (AA SJC-BOS 757 redeye a month ago). Same goes for 767's. On DC-9's, MD-80's and 727's, I try to get up front if I can - the front parts of the -80's in particular are amazingly quiet! However, the same rules apply - longer flight, the closer to the front I prefer (although everyone should sit in the rear of a 727 once in their life to see their wings in action - cool flaps, droops and spoilers!). I've flown the DC-10 once and got stuck in the middle of the 2-5-2 arrangement in the middle of the plane - these had to be the worst seats I've ever had on a plane. On RJ's, I have no preferences, since it's very difficult to see out those windows anyways and the cabin is pretty quiet no matter where you sit.
Propeller-driven planes - window seats in the rear always! You get to see the wing, propeller/engine combo, it's quieter, and sometimes you can see the landing gear in it's full operation (extending, retracting) and sometimes you can see the wheels actually touch down - very cool!!! (Dash-8's and Beech 1900's come to mind!)
One other reason I like being closer to the front is that I'm a pretty frequent flyer who often times has to run off the plane and through a crowded terminal to catch my connecting flight!! On the commuters, I can sit in the back since it usually does not take too long to disembark.

They believe the front of the plane is shaken less during turbulence, and I have read somewhere that above the wing, i.e. above the centre of gravity, turbulence is in fact reduced. But is it also reduced in front of the wing? How true is this assumption. Personally, I believe it does not matter.
As for the window seat: Behind the wing is cool, seeing the flaps and on some jets the thrust reversers. But in front of the wing is just as nice, and above the wing, well, I'd at least be trying to see the shadow of the shockwave...... but not much else.
The coolest place to sit will always be the upper deck of a 747, window seat.

I always sits in the rear just about 1 to 4 rows behinds the wings... my favourite place to sit.. Windows & Aisle Seats... doesn't matter... Economy Class doesn;t matter at all .... I just Loves being in da rear !!!!! hehehehhehe

You got a point- the cockpit has the best view of all, but normally I try for a Bulkhead or Emergency Exit seat on the aisle. In wide-bodies, its the outer aisle only- I've flown in the middle of a 767 twice (JFK-LHR and MAD-LHR), and both flights were not something to write home about. My favorite all time is the outer aisle seats in row 41 of BA's classic 747s (-100/-200), because roe 40, the bulkhead row, is only 2 wide on the outer aisle so you get extra legroom, and at 6'5", its necessary!

I always like to have a window seat - that's the seat I often ask for when making any airline reservation. Front or rear, it doesn't really matter in any low-winged plane like the A319 and the 737-200. But no middle rows in a BAe 146, because of their jet engines blocking the view!! The frontmost economy row isn't too bad in a BAe 146, as I saw during my trip to YVR last weekend. The same thing goes for turboprops with high wings like the Dash 8-100/300. Dash 8s tend to have these huge turboprop engines!
There are advantages to the front and rear. In the rear and middle, you can see the wing and the engines. I have noticed that rear-engined a/c like the DC-9 and the CRJ (I've been on both) have their wings more to the rear. You should see the MD-90-30 - the wings on this a/c are the rearmost of any a/c I can think of!
In the front, there's less vibration and turbulence. And a bit quieter. No wonder I try to upgrade on any CP flight with a business class section!
Best seats: window seats in both widebodies and narrowbodies!!!
Worst seats: the very middle seats in the middle row section in widebodies. And any middle seat flanked by a seat on both sides in five-abreast or six-abreast seating on narrowbodies. Many narrow-bodied a/c are like this. This is why I also usually want to sit in the left side, facing the front in the BAe 146 and the DC-9.

I like to sit on a window seat for these reasons:
1. I enjoy the view
2. I have only one other person in my side. (since I fly economy)
3. Nobody climbs over me to go to the aisle. (but I try to be considerate enough for my fellow passengers)
Now as far as which section of the plane (front vs rear) I would prefer the rear , for the reasons already covered.

I like to sit in window seats towards the front of the aircraft. If there is no way of getting a B1usiness class seat, I like to try and get the seats that can convert from Business to Economy class seating. They tend to have similar legroom to the Business seating (And when you stand a bit taller than 6'6", legroom is a high priority).
I don't like exit rows at all because of the wing blocking the view. Also because on AN and QF aircraft the tray tables sit about 6" too far away. It is just too hard to try and eat a meal.
But my all time favourite seat is the jumpseat in the A320. The best view in the house is the seat between the pilots!

Window Seat. Either in front of the wing or in back of the wing. I don't like sitting to up front because there is no action. Way in the back is to "in the back". I like it right in the middle.
But of course, that's not my favorite seat. My favorite is, the best seat in the house, the jumpseat.

Dash 8: 8D... nothing like seeing the wheels touchdown
F28: While i'd almost rather be on the ground than on this thing... 3F... the last row of J
B146: 17F... lots of room, only 2 seats, still quiet
DC9: 18A... exit row... only row with decent legroom
B737: Last row, A side
A320: 16F (On the CP jets, I don't know what it is on AC)
DC10: 33A (Seat there on the best flight of my life)

In an F28, I agree with you for sure, but if there's no choice, I'd try to go for an upgrade! That's where the only decent legroom can be found! And it's a little quieter, too. Even I'd rather be on a Dash 8 than an F28, especially from YEG-YYC. And on a BAe 146 (luv these British-made things, eh what?), A319, or even a 737-200 on YEG-YVR!
