Overhead Stowage Bin

It is sometimes very dangerous that items moved during the flight slipping out of overhead stowage bin when opening after landing. Is there any way to avoid this problem?

Hold you hand in front of the opening, and watch your head as other people open them. Worst case, you'll get an anvil on your head but in truth serious injuries are rare.

Thats why i am always sitting by the window. I had once a bag dropped on my head. Nothing happend but when I look nowadays it is really really dangerous on some routes.
