Bombardier is studying the possibility of launching a brand new regional jet, project code BRJ-X. This plane would be a 5 seat abreast cabin, carrying up to 115 pax on routes 2400 nm long (ER version). Market seems to be Fokker 28/100 and DC9s replacements. It would also be a direct competitor of the 717. Should Bombardier go ahead with this ?
Never let the facts get in the way of a good theory.

I hope Bombardier will go ahead with the BRJ-X but the 90-115 seat market already has the 717,737-600, A318, 928JET, ERJ-190, and Bombardier's own CRJ which will be offered in a 90 seat version. With all of these planes doing the same basic mission (except the heavier A318 and 737-600) I don't know if there is enough demand for yet another entry into this market.
