Caught this on Teletext this morning before leaving for work, a small microlight had to make a emergency landing in a field near Sellafield because fog was hampering the flight and they couldnt safely continue.
The 2 people on board made a decision to put-down in a field near to the Sellafield reactor and were unhurt in the landing.
One question, I thought the airspace around Sellafield was restricted, so how did a microlight manage to pass through this "zone" without alerting the military.

The 4th paragraph here might be of use: http://www.corecumbria.co.uk/newsapp...fings/briefsmain.asp?StrNewsID=148

Essentially, the mil could not get to the area in time even if they did spot it. Does a microlight even show up on radar?

After the events in Sellafield in the last weeks, wasn`t the largest danger for the pilots?
It`s terrible to survive an emergency landing in order to be radioactively contaminated.  Big grin
