A380 Delay Help Airbus Sell More Planes To QF?

It’s pretty much known that QF’s contract allows for compensation on the delay of A380 deliveries. What’s the chance rather than offering cash Airbus now tempt QF with more aircraft at some gotta-stop-Boeing” giveaway prices.

I can see Airbus offering some A330/A340 and further A380 at unrepeatable prices.
Let’s face it Airbus would mush rather give planes at cost, saving them handing out cash, with the bonus of stopping a 777/747/787 order to a highly respected carrier

Airbus marketing is pretty damn slick and they will come up with some very convincing arguments against the Boeing product.

Let me stress – I am neither pro Airbus nor Boeing. This is just talk that is about.

Your thoughts?

Of course its a possibility but despite this, whatever is said in the contract between the two parties must be satisfied. Now the interesting part is whether the options played a part in this or not... I am guessing by QF's response that they didn't but stranger things have happened...

I get the feeling they'd offer it regardless of the A380 situation but again, its a possibility.

Of course thats their desired outcome, but what I think is that the contract they have is very tight and there is not much saving Airbus from handing over the cash.

Airbus is not in a position to be forced to offer low prices on a A380.

Boeing has to keep the 744 line open until at least 2009 to launch a 744adv, so they say.

But I bet they would try and convince QF that what they needed was A340's and A380's rather than more 747's. Plus you could guarantee Airbus will scarifice the prices on A340's to do a deal and stop QF buying the 747-ADV. Once upon a time QF was all Boeing, thier loyalty was legendary. But it's now all about $$$$$

Don't they already have an RFP out for A346 or 773ER-sized airplanes?

The economics and conversion rate of the 773ER also speak for themselves. What have AC and AI both said in the last few weeks? We chose the most economical product available. (i.e. 777)
