Certain airports are moving the Star Alliance airlines into one terminal. Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Miami, and Los Angelas have plans to do this.
Will ORD follow in the footsteps of these airports?

Yep, they depart from Terminal 1. Plus the Air Canada gates are right next door in Terminal 2. It would be a tough job to get all the Star Alliance airlines into one terminal at JFK.

Yes,
Lufthansa and United international arrivals park at the International Terminal 5 for customs/immigration. When I landed in ORD last summer I saw a LH 747-200 parked at the Int'l terminal. When I came back to ORD 2 weeks later there were two LH departures from the United terminal 1. One was an A340-200 to Frankfurt, and the other a 747-200 to Munich.

All international arrivals go into Terminal 5 at O'Hare. Lufthansa and SAS operate all their departures out of Terminal 1. Air Canada departs from Terminal 2, but United also uses about 10 gates in T2 as well.

Well, sort of. Lufthansa arrives at Terminal 5 and departs from terminal 1, AC leaves and arrives at terminal 2 (Passengers clear US Customs prior to departure from Canada), SAS still operates in and out of Terminal 5, as does ANA.
UA's long term plan is to take over the rest of terminal 2 (As Desert Jets said, they have about 10 gates or so for United Express and overflow from T-1) once a fourth terminal is built. When this will happen is anybody's guess, because the cost estimates made last fall suddenly doubled so the whole thing is now in limbo. A Star Alliance terminal is then possible in terminals 1 and 2 once these plans come to fruition, as UA wants to put in customs facilities in the newly remodeled terminal 2.

This is a double-edged sword:
#1) the expense involved in building a new terminal (esp one for the Star Group at ORD) is tremendous.
#2) on the other side, when airlines lease gate and counter space, they usually sign lengthy leases with the airport (10 to 30 years), and it is tough to get out of them.
Solution #1) Follow LAX's Int'l terminal example and go to what is known as CUTE (Common Use Terminal Equipment), whereas airlines share space, and pay the airport based on its percentage of use.
Solution #2) Talk the airport operator into letting airlines switch gates amongst themselves (subject to airport approval, of course).
As for Star at ORD though, there's ample space at UA's terminal for that whole group, and that would free up some space at T5.

I think that ORD needs to build another terminal that will be used by CO, DL, HP, NW, TW, US, and the charter airlines. Then, United needs to expand the B concourse (on the north side) east so United Express flights can have jetways and more space. After doing this, United needs to designate one of the concourses in terminal 2 for Star Alliance International arrivals and departures. The other concourse in terminal 2 can be used for domestic jet traffic. If United is unable to expand the B concoure east, they should use one of the concourses in terminal 2 for United Express operations. The space that United Express is currently operating (at the north end of the B concourse) should then be used by UAL's bigger jets-I think there is room for at least 4-6(maybe more) aircraft positions at this end of the B concourse.
