Can anyone help - on saturday 18th June I need to get to Newquay - I will be in York but dont mind flying from anywhere (within reason). The trains are hell and it will take 11 hours. I have looked at BMIBaby and Air Southwest - any other options or suggestions.

Air Southwest from LBA for sure.
Can understand not wanting to do the train down there.
Even if you got to EXT, you still need to get to Exeter St. Davids then a 2 hour tain to Par and then a change and another half hour to Newquay. and at certain times of day you'd probably have to change in Plymouth too.
NQY is a fair trek from Newquay itself. Buses aren't great - they're First group and as First group also have the train franchise too, they're not going to make it easy for the likes of Ryanair and Air Southwest customers coming down from London, Bristol, etc.
Not sure what a taxi price is - I always get picked up by family.
Just when I thought I could see light at the end of the tunnel, it was some B*****d with a torch bringing me more work

easyJet to Bristol from NCL, then Air Southwest from there. Not ideal though - I'd try Air Southweast all the way, as has already been suggested...
Dunno where you got the figure of 11 hours from - a quick scan of http://www.nationalrail.co.uk suggests the following:
York dep 0744 change Reading arr Newquay 1645 (9:01 duration)
York dep 0830 change KX/tube/Paddington arr Newquay 1645 (8:15 duration)
York dep 1044 direct to Newquay arr 18:40 (7:56 duration)
