Today in Sao Paulo TAM and TACA announced a partnership between both airlines, including codeshare. TACA flies daily UIO-LIM-GRU A320. TAM will provide domestic onward connection in GRU, while TAM will be able to sell TACA tickets via the codeshare.

TAM is also expected to start flights GRU-LIM and therefore use TA's LIM hub to connect pax to other destinations in South America and Central America.

Great news for my favorite airline!  cheerful

This will add up to the existing FF partnership between both airlines.

Do you know what destinations in Brazil will be included in the codeshare agreement?

Saludos airplane

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

Great news for both JJ and TA. Maybe there is a chance in hell JJ will start flying to Central America, maybe SJO. They would catch a lot of pasengers in transit from Mexico, US and Canada, epecially the loyal TA customers that hate the 2 stops on the way to GRU.

Indeed. [as a personal comment: TA is one of my favourite airlines].

Isnt there only 1 stop? SJO-LIM/LIM-GRU?

Maybe with the codeshare TA/JJ we could see a rearrengement of TA schedule, and maybe JJ's flight to LIM could continue onward to SJO. After this codeshare I'm almost certain TAM will land in LIM.

Most people on the TA North America-GRU flights follow this plan:

Example: LAX-SJO-LIM-GRU or JFK-SJO-LIM-GRU.

With a JJ GRU-SJO flight, TA and JJ would be able to compete with CM on all those routes.

I agree with your point. However, a very small share of CM's pax in Brazil have as destination the US, and of this small share the majority flies to ORL. The primary destinations of CM's pax departing from GRU are, without doubt, the Colombia, Venezuela, Central America and HAV.

However, a flight to SJO could better use TA's network to Central America. Maybe TA and JJ could split their operations, one flying SJO-GRU and the other UIO-LIM-GRU, both in codeshare.

TACA and TAM have had a relationship going back many years. The former executives of both companies, TACA's Federico Bloch and TAM's founder Rolim Amaro were friends and shared similar views in regards to building a modern efficient airlines with commitment to service in their respective countries along with also fostering liberalization of business and commerce in Latin America.
Both TACA and TAM placed joint orders for A320 family aircraft, with the aircraft specifications being technically identicial to allow for planned joint ventures between the two companies on many levels.
