I am thinking about heading out to Hopkins to do a little spotting on Friday - likely in the mid-to-late afternoon. I am visiting from FLL, although CLE is my hometown airport. Is anyone interested - or do you have any suggestions on what is the best place to go now that things have changed around?

Take care - DAN

well, Dan if i wasn't working i'd join you! since you're going to be there during a business hours, i recommend you read my thread here:

http://www.airliners.net/discussions...eneral_aviation/read.main/2132593/

the above spot is best when they're using the 6's and i had an experience not too long ago there. lately, they've been using the 24's and i just found out the the 100th bomb group deck is now open. BUT...it doesnt open until 16:30 local. it looks like it may be an EXCELLENT place to spot. there's also a vacant lot at the corner of Brookpark Rd and Rocky River Dr. its the spot where the old Brown Derby used to be. i've never been hassled there.

if you were going around 7pm i could probably swing it.

Gentlemen,

The new 100th Bomb Group Restaurant is a wonderful spotting location and purposefully spotter friendly. The police can't harass you there.

Check out my website at http://www.geocities.com/bandimal/airports/kcle/spotters.html

Directions to the new restaurant:

From the North:
--> I-90 to I-71 Southbound.
--> I-71 Southbound - after the West 130th Street exit, get into the right middle lane, which will split in two at the OH 237/I-480/I-71 split.
--> I-480 westbound (only I-480 direction available.) Remain in the same lane, which will become the far right lane as you bear off from OH 237.
--> Exit at Grayton Road (the first exit.)
--> Turn right at the end of the ramp, cross I-480 and you come to a T-intersection at Brookpark Road.
--> Turn right to Brookpark Road. Pass the onramp to I-480 and get into the right lane. (The restaurant will be on the berm in front of you.)
--> Turn right at the next intersection, Old Grayton Road.
--> Make an immediate right turn into the restaurant's parking lot.

From the East or Southeast:
--> I-77 to the I-480 WESTBOUND (Cleveland/Toledo) exit.
--> Exit at Grayton Road (just past the I-71 and OH 237 exits.)

From the South or Southwest:
--> I-71 north to the I-480 WESTBOUND (to Toledo) exit.
--> Exit at Grayton Road.

From the West:
--> I-480 to the Grayton Road exit (the exit before this is OH 252/Columbia Road.)
At the top of the ramp, turn right on Brookpark Road.
--> Turn right at the next intersection, Old Grayton Road.
--> Make an immediate right turn into the restaurant's parking lot.

I'll be there at about 6:00 PM (I work until 5:00 PM and have to cross town.)

Cheers,
redngold

Forgive my late reply, but I've been out of town till yesterday. I was just up at the bomb group for dinner and the observation deck is open! There are fire pits with chairs around them as well as tables to sit and order drinks. It's awesome! Whoever owns that place must be an aviation nut, too!

I never did make it out to CLE, as I went downtown for the music fest instead - but I will check out the observation deck at the Bomb Group when I am in town again in August, September or November depending on the weather. I hope to meet some of the CLE spotters there at some point!

I did end up getting some good shots at CAK, including the Star Triple Seven 747SP parked down there.
