Who is going to use the existing facilities when NWA moves into their midfield terminal? Might This present TWA with an opportunity to "attempt" to establish a focus city there? Also, it looks to me that with the gate configuration as it is, that there will not be much room for retail and other amenities inside the "East concourse" itself. It will be a long walk from the wings of "East concourse" to the main terminal if thats where you'll have to go.

DOes TWA have the funds to establish a new hub? THey would need to significantly increase their fleet. It will be interesting to see what will happen to the old terminal. Where did you get these scans? If you know where to find these and others from other airports I'd love to know too!
Thanks

Well, I live in Detroit and have heard some things regarding this issue. First you must know that the new terminal (East and West concourses) contain close to 100 gates but will be only for the use of Northwest and international carriers (Lufthansa, KLM, British Airways). The existing facilities are divided into terminals designated A,B,C,D,E,F, and G concourse. The A and B concourses, which contain all domestic airlines not named "Northwest" (around 18-20 gates) will be demolished almost for sure because that section of the airport is oldest. On the diagram above, concourse A and B are closest to the new terminal. Additionally, concourse G is the Northwest Airlink concourse, which handles only propliner flights. Other airlines probably will have little use for this area.
This leaves concourse C, D, E, and F, containing 60 gates. No one knows exactly what is to become of these. The city wants Southwest, which now occupies 4 or 5 gates I think, and Spirit, which has two, to expand and possibly share the 26-gate C concourse, which was renovated and expanded recently. Then, the remaining airlines can split two of the other three concourses, and the last can sit empty or something. However, Northwest wants all the other airlines to split the 26 gates in the C concourse, ensuring that no single airline will have more than about 5 or 6 gates to combat Northwest's 95+ gates they will have out of the 100 in the new terminal.
