That is an error, more than likely it was a departure for EWR.

Yes, back then the flights out of LAX went to either Newark or Baltimore. Then they often went up to Boston (and, in one instance, continued into Boston Harbor).

When I read the title at 6 AM PDT, I assumed the poster meant that photo was at LGA. Jetjack74, next time I'll have my coffee and then re-read it all over again before posting.
