Best Master Plans For Future Terminal Expansion?

Hello,

I have been finding quite an interest in looking at the Master Plans of airports and their future terminal (alternatives). I have been having a hard time fining master plans that depict future terminals and/or terminal alternatives.

I ask help in finding Master Plans to airports that include future passenger terminal designs and/or passenger terminal design alternatives.

They can be any airport anywhere, but I do ask that the airport have some kind of passenger air service.

Some Airport Master Plans that I like that I will use as an example:
GEG
SMF
SJC
PDX
AUS
BOI (I hate to use my home airport as an example, but it's just so easy to find)

If you are interested in airports in the UK, STN has bags of potential for future growth (despite some opposition). To see a large array of maps, noise charts etc. check out this link...

got to GTAA.com they have their master plan for Pearson airport including all of the terminal expansion, and runway construction. They also have the draft plan for a new "green field" airport, showing how it will grow from start to finish.

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for, but RDU has a virtual tour of it's new Terminal C. Kind of cool.

I think DTW is up there.

In a 10 year period of time they will have completely rebuilt the entire airport, added an additional runway, and added access to another interstate highway.

We opened the new NW Worldgateway in 2002, a new runway in 2001, and the new terminal for the non-Skyteam partners will open in the next 3-5 years.

Terminal 1 at SAN, although functional, is pretty old and dated. Not quite the joke that terminal three at LAX is (think the movie "Airplane!" - nothing has changed since), but very tired and in need of a re-model.

Terminal 2, however, is quite nice, especially the west side. Now plans are underway to expand that pier with many new gates.

While this may be an excess of capacity at this time, it will allow HP and USAirways to move to new gates next to each other and allow HP to not have to use CO's gates for all the Mexico flights. Further, the extra capacity could serve to allow airlines in Terminal one to move out for a re-model.

There are two that I have seen that are particularly interesting.

One is the STL masterplan. This includes the oft maligned third parallel which is staggered so far to the west from the current runways that its ability to enhance capacity is diminished. Additionally, it is too close to the other parallel runways with spacing of less than 4300 feet.

Phase Two includes concepts for renovations to the existing terminal along with new additions. The renovation appears to involve removing the gates that sit along the main taxiway now, thus, restricting two-way taxiing. This is crucial to providing access for departing and arriving flights to and from the new runway. However, this appears to be many years away if it ever happens.

There is a provision for a west terminal and associated roadways that sits a bit close to the runway protection zone (RPZ); that building has what appears to be widebody gates - presumably for Asia and Europe flights that are currently non-existent.

West of the crosswind is a 50-60 gate airside. This would give Lambert a total of 130-140 gates. All of this is based on demand by the airlines - and God knows they're all chomping at the bit waiting to add more flights here. I mean O&D appears to be up - especially for airlines other than American, but this is hardly the hub it once was.

If anything, the old facility should be bulldozed - including the current East Terminal (Southwest and charters). All carriers should be housed in a new terminal. the proposed design of the midfield concourse has different sections to allow separate areas for various carriers.

St. Louis' other airport MidAmerica-St. Louis has two carriers and is slated for expansion of cargo service. The powers-that-be are so afraid of losing Lambert to Illinois that they have effectively squelched the possibility of this much larger land mass being the major St. Louis area carrier facility. The "Fleecing of America" TV specials didn't do much to help. check out this site:

The other airport with terminal expansion is Detroit. Now that they have completed their midfield and are finishing its expansion, they are moving forward with North Terminal - a variation on the linear terminal/concourse theme which includes a sort of "W" shaped concourse. This will replace the Smith and Berry terminals.

I'm sure you already know this, but finding most airport master plans entail going to the airport's individual web-site and hunting down the link, if there even is one on their site. Even though the vast majority of airports have a master plan, if not all airports, sometimes they are so complex, detailed, wordy, etc, that it would be tough to put the whole set of documents on a web-site (ours isn't, btw).

You might also want to investigate web-sites for the various airport facility planning consultants. There are a ton of these around: Burns and McDonnell, DMJM, Parsons Brinckerhoff, Coffman Associates, Gensler, Gresham Smith, HNTB, Mead and Hunt, Reynolds Smith and Hills are but a few.

I dont know if SLC's plan is online or not, but from what I remember it was to look quite a bit like what it does today, only larger and a tad easier to use, although SLC right now is one the easiest airports to get around.
