Press Release:

Embraer, Gecas sign agreement for 20 Embraer 190 jets

Sale bolsters an already strong order book for E-Jets

Paris Air Show (Le Bourget, France), June 15, 2005 – Embraer announced today that GE Commercial Aviation Services (GECAS), a unit of GE Commercial Finance, has signed a contract to purchase 20 EMBRAER 190 aircraft, with conversion rights to EMBRAER 195s. The commercial aircraft leasing company will take delivery of the aircraft beginning in mid-2006. The value of the order totals US$ 650 million, at aircraft list price.

My bet is that smaller carriers will lease them from GECAS, not a single company.

Great news BTW!

Even JJ could be the final destination. JJ is looking for F100 replacements and at the last days talked with Embraer and Brazilian Authorities in a way to find how to take some E-Jets. A lease in USD thru GECAS could be the solution.

In fact good news for Embraer, 25 aircraft sold in two days it's a huge contribution to their book log as well as more exports to Brazil.

Felipe

The more E170/190 class they sell, the more I'll get to see. I love that plane. It's so adorable.

Since the order is convertible, I'm betting GECAS is ordering on speculation with somewhat easy cancellation provisions. I'm interested to know why only 20? Personally I'm betting the E-series is going to be a hit. That's why even with Embraer's so-so financials (FY2004) I've bought their stock.

While GECAS has the lease on a few US E170's, I too am curious to where these 20 are destined. According to a WSJ article back in about April, GECAS had only two unplaced aircraft in their whole fleet; obviously this mean GECAS knows how to buy and place airframes.

While I like NW as an airline, they *must* get their financial house in order before buying anything. Yes, I would like to see the DC-9-30's replaced with E-jets.  duck  Ok, please don't shoot me, I'm trying to have a rational discussion here.  duck  But before they could bring in a mix of E170's and E190's/E195's they must get on stronger financial footing. Until then, keeping the dependable DC-9-30's is a smart move until oil breaks ~$60/bbl.

Embraer is starting to make noise about trying to place E-jets with LCC's... could GECAS "prime the pump" by starting their purchases with some leases?

To my knowledge Embraer has yet to sell an E-jet in Asia, Oceana, the middle-east, or Africa. In other words, they've placed jets in North and South America and Europe, but that's it. Did I miss any orders?

Ikramerica, do you know if the E170 operates to San Diego / Los Angeles nowadays ?
I'll be flying to California and it will be nice if i can take an E170/190 flight!

There was a recent article in the Brazilian media saying that the challenge for Embraer at the Paris Airshow (not just in Paris), was to diversify their customer base as their current ones (airlines that place large orders) are in financial trouble. So that means smaller orders but, hopefully, many more orders.

Saudi Arabian ordered 15 E70s.

There have been rumors though, with Virgin Blue if I'm not mistaken. I think AN could do some good with the E-series as well.

Rumors also saya bout an Indian order (JetAirways?), but nothing concrete as of yet.

But indeed, true, Embraer has not sold an E-series jet in these regions so far (with the exception of the mid-east).

Cheers,
PPVRA

PPVRA, i think the 3 aircrafts leased to Paramount are old options of an E170 order, not the new acquisition of E190. Take a look at the book log, they bought 8 E170 with additional options. 3 options were converted into E175 firm orders in favor of Paramount.
Agree ?
