According to this article, an El Al flight, scheduled to operate Miami-Tel Aviv non-stop, had to make an "unscheduled" stop in New York City. However, El Al's twice weekly Miami-Tel Aviv 747-400 service has a scheduled stop in Newark. I'm a little confused. Maybe because the plane took off from Miami with 400 (!!!) people already, they decided not to stop in Newark?

Slightly off topic: the source given is NOT what it pretends to be (i.e. "national news" ).

Sounds to me like it had already departed EWR on its EWR-TLV leg and had to return to EWR. The "after taking off from MIA" is a typical error if the flight had originated there. Don't forget that many media reports of Air Florida 90 listed it as flying from DCA to FLL.
