The UK city once famous for the concrete cows...

I heard on local radio this evening that English Partnerships the land management and develepment company that owns nearly all the land in the Milton Keynes area is to launch a Viability Study into the possibility on Milton Keynes having it's own international airport and if there is demand...

At the moment there are no plans on what the airport would be like, predicted passenger numbers or where it would be located. But wants to see if the city could support it's own airport.

With Milton Keynes being Europe's fastest growing city and expected to exceed a population of 350,000 inhabitants by 2010 it will be amoung one of the countries largest cities. Milton Keynes is home to more international head quarters in the UK than any other town/city per head of population including the likes of Volkswagon, Audi, Open University, Abbey National, Argos, British Standards Institute and BP to name a few. Also it boasts some of lowest unemployment with current figures at 1.8%, highest disposable incomes and voted to offer some of the best quality of life of any town or city. Offering large parklands and lakes, largest shopping centre in Europe, least congested roads and some of the best entertainment venues.

With the city offering all the above I think it could easily support its own airport and there are many other major towns in the local vacinity this would benefit. The only thorn in it's side is Luton Airport only being 25miles down the congested M1. But this could be viewed as a positive and replace it! - Luton Airports existing site is on the edge of the town, restricted for expansion and geographically an aweful location!

Does anyone else have any details about this...

It was on Horizon Radio this evening but cant find anything on any websites.

So everyone wants their airport in their backyard.

You already have Luton, and what about BHX- Not that far down the road either isn't it?

And if it is being built for the spotters - why dont they hop over to Cranfield on the No 17 . Atleast that will push that revered vehicles (the bus service) occupancy from the grand total of 1-2 per trip!

Isn't there an RAF airport at Milton Keynes? Why not convert that? Europe certainly has a surplus of military bases.
