Is JFK US's Busiest Intl. Airport?

Looking at airports.org I noticed that JFK is the busiest US airport by international passengers. LAX is 2nd, and MIA is third. I swore that I've heard from various places that MIA is the busiest, though I never believed it. Was MIA ever the busiest or was I simply seeing things?

You sure LHR isn't the busiest in terms of international passengers?

He was asking about the United States airports not the whole world. ATL could be up there too.

I believe that ATL is the busiest airport in the US.

There is another interesting thread going on about the 200th destination being added from ATL. It's a good read. The thread starter has listed all the 200 destinations.

BTW does anybody know the number of folks going through ATL?

Do you mean connecting passengers? If so, last year it was about 52 million through ATL.

He asked if JFK had the most International pax.
My guess would be LAX, or ORD though

I believe Miami is busiest Int'l airport in the country. JFK was first, LAX second and MIA 3rd for a long time but with the increased recent traffic to Latin America, I believe MIA passed both in 2003. Incidently, MIA is third busiest domestic airport in the State of Florida (behind Orlando and Fort Lauderdale) much like JFK pre Jet Blue was essentially an int'l airport first and just handled feeder domestic traffic.

No, because LHR is not in the United States.

Quoting Hawaijahaz (Reply 5):

1. Atlanta, Hartsfield (ATL) 83,578,906
2. Chicago, O'Hare (ORD) 75,373,888
3. London, Heathrow (LHR) 67,343,960

Atlanta was tops for passengers, with 83.6 million last year, while O'Hare had more flight operations. So far this year, Atlanta averages 2,706 flights per day, compared with 2,642 for O'Hare.

ORD was the KING for movements last yr but being that AA and UA cut down on departures and arrivals to aleve the delays I believe ATL will take the title from them.

For Intl traffic id say ATL.

What about IAD as far as there intl traffic?

He is talking about which US airport has the most int'l pax....not the busiest int'l airport...and that distinction belongs to MIA...not JFK.

No shit sherlock, maybe you missed the first two people who roasted me for that.

This is one of the things I dislike the most about Airliners.net, make one simple mistake and a dozen people come down to contradict you, most of them rudely.

Nope, according to Airports.org, which is the site he cited, for the 12 month period ending in FEB

JFK 17 590 492 pax
LAX 16 615 783 pax
MIA 14 205 401 pax, which is a distant third

the poster was exactly right, I don't know where you guys came up with Miami as being in front

Well...I can't argue with the numbers you provided. Now that I think about it though...I think the distinction that belongs to MIA is the number of intl destinations served which I think does exceed, by a wide margin that of JFK.

But as your numbers indicate JFK and LAX have a larger number of int'l pax.

LMAO!!! Relax man....I know we are a testy bunch on here sometimes. The very fact that we sit and debate such trivial topics to the point of being rude to each other means that we all have way too much time on our hands. All comes with the territory of being plane geeks.

After 9.11, trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific traffic collapsed, but traffic to Latin America and the Caribbean remained much more stable. MIA was the largest US airport in terms of international passengers in 2002.
