Spirit Route Authorities To Points South

Usually Mark (MAH 4546) has these answers, but perhaps other know as well:

- What points south has Spirit been granted route authority for. Anywhere in Central or South America?

- Does US Airways have any applications pending or approved already for new destinations from FLL?

I believe that these are the countries they have exemptions to serve.

Aruba
Bahamas
Costa Rica
Dominican Republic
El Salvador
Guatemala
Jamaica
Mexico
Nicaragua
Panama

There may be a couple more that I'm forgetting. For some reason I reason I want to say Venezuela, but I couldn't find it in their application.

I know that this has been asked a million times before, but does anyone have any insight as to what the next destination will be? Also what is up with the FLL-MEX route? I know it was delayed, are they still planning to do this route?

Probably because they wouldn't get the authorization from Venezuelan side to operate into the country.

NK has until 7/15/05 to confirm with the USDOT that they will begin the route by 12/15/05 or possibly loose the exemption rights to fly the FLL-MEX route. We should hopefully know by then what their plan is...

NK is also waiting for USDOT route authority awards on MCO/TPA-CUN. They are currently in the running with DL and FL for the authority. For those of you who might know, the US/Mexico bilateral allows only 2 "US" carriers and 2 Mexican carrier to serve a transboder route between the 2 countries. I personnaly hope NK gets the rights.

FLL-MEX is supposed to start in December. They aren't at a real risk of losing it unless two other US airlines apply for the route.

Spirit will most likely get TPA-CUN, as only airTran is competing with them for that authority, Delta isn't.
