Quote from another topic: SAA And Jet Airbus Deal Controversy (by SAA201 Jun 19 2005 in Civil Aviation) (last line of reply 10)

"SAA would also be focusing on capturing Indian, Chinese and Nigerian markets and would resume flights form Johannesburg to Bangkok in October this year, Ngqula said."

Huh? I thought Thai Airways was meant to be starting services between Bangkok and Jo'burg, with SAA possibly code-sharing?

I can't seem to find online schedules for this route for either airline at the moment though. Can anyone confirm?

SAA cut Bangkok from its network some time ago, IIRC stating that although loads were good, yields were low on that route...

Thai Airways is starting the service with the new 2 class MD11's!

Maybe the route will be codeshared, or maybe will fly on opposite days to TG?

When did they drop BKK and why, if I remember correctly the service was served by the 747SP, I remember seeing it late at night at BKK fairly often?

It would be nice to see SAA back at BKK, maybe SAA are operating the route so TG could send the MD11 to somewhere else?

Rob!

Thanks!

Do you know the start date and schedule for Thai to JNB?

From flysaa.com "25 August, 2003, JOHANNESBURG: Because of poor profits, South African Airways (SAA) will suspend its service to and from Bangkok, Thailand from 31 October 2003 but will begin operating daily to and from Hong Kong in November 2003"

SAA will not be flying its own metal into Bangkok but will instead code-share on TG's flights.
