I just wanted to know which of the three carriers would be best for a flight between Shenzhen and Beijing. The choices are:

CA - Air China
FM - Shanghai Airlines
MU - China Eastern

I have a feeling that China Eastern is the better of the three, from what little knowledge I have of the airline industry in China.

I just want to get a feeling for the carriers noted above, as I may find myself in China in a little while and may be travelling this very route. I'm only really interested in the basics - service, punctuality, reliability - but if you have any other useful information for me I'd greatly appreciate it.  Smile

China Eastern used to be excellent, but they have gone downhill lately in my experience. I would now put them 3rd in your list, especially in terms of on-time performance, which is dismal.

Of the three airlines you mention, Air China is probably the best domestically at the moment. They usually serve hot meals, their planes are fairly new and their on-time performance is better than the other two (in my experience).

Having said that, if I were to fly from Shenzhen to Beijing I would choose Shenzhen Airlines. Their planes are quite new, I find their food and their on-time performance excellent, their cabin staff are MUCH more service-oriented and the leg room is more generous than any of the other airlines you listed - which means a lot to me as leg room can be VERY tight on Chinese domestic airlines sometimes.

On some flights with Shenzhen Airlines, the cabin staff lead the passengers through in-seat fitness exercises. It is a great experience as everyone joins in together doing their neck, shoulder, leg, arm or torso exercises, including clapping in time together. It is an awesome cultural and community experience!

Thanks for the very rapid response.

I will look into the possibility of booking on Shenzhen - our preferred channel for booking flights offered only the three I mentioned, perhaps I will give it another try later.

When I have flown with Shenzhen Airlines, I have usually booked online at www.zuji.com

It is a good website as it shows comparative prices of all the airlines on one screen. Moreover, they do get some excellent deals on internal Chinese flights.
