Anyone heard any rumours or can give some info for any possible future flights to those destinations ? According to the Greek Ministry of Tourism (EOT) there're already 2 branches of EOT in Peking, do you think maybe China Airlines will consider such a route due to the Olympics ? What about Eva Air or Cathay ? I think a barrier to that is the already existing route IST-HKG, what do you think (I don't dare to ask if Olympic should open such a route !) ?

Why in gods name would you want a decripit airline like Olympic to further drown itself with yet another long-haul blunder? I would think someone like Cathay or China Southern perhaps could make the route to ATH. But thats just my 2 cents.

It will be nice to see CA, BR/CI and CX in Athens Airport, but for the time being TG and SQ provides good feeder services to these countries.
On the other hand, I keep wondering if OA had created a strong Balkan Hub-and-Spoke system, these airlines would not have been tempted to serve Athens and to code share with OA on such destinations as : BEK,ZAG,LJU,SKP,MUC,BUH,BUD,SOF,KBP etc....
Of course, some one should question if Athens can support a viable service to these destinations. In my opinion, ATH could be an intermediate stop for these airlines on their routes to MUC,ZRH, VIE, BUD, PRG

Some Olympic update first: It seems discussions with Olympic Investors/York Capital is going well. Rumours that the group is planning to further reduce staff and increase fleet from 40 to 45 a/cs but still some details need to be cleared out with the gonvernment.
Now to the topic: I love CX paint scheme and would like to see Cathay in Athens but seems TG and SQ are enough for now. I want to visit my gf, originaly from HK but now working in TPE, and from ATH it shows me 3000+E while from LHR is around £700, is it sthg wrong with my browser ??? N77014 I know the story with China and Taiwan but are there many airlines already flying to TPE ?
As for the hub and code share now it's too late, this should have been done when OA was still in good reputation. New ATH airport is a good chance but the whole country is such a mess (bahalo) it's not easy to work methodically. Sthg a bit irrelevant, after all why did the route to Tokyo close despite it was full with passengers? Was there any stop inbetween? Thanks to all.

with which airline is that OA??
You have to remember that ATH-BKK is very busy JUL/AUG with Greeks going to Thailand and Bali for holidays. Then from AUG/SEPT/OCT it is busy with Australian Greeks returning back to Australia.
BKK-ATH is peak season JUN/JUL/AUG with Australian Greeks visiting Greeks, and is also busy AUG/SEPT with Greeks returning from holidays in Asia.
It is probably best to avoid this period for travel.

Thanks for these news OA269. I hope that this will be something of a fleet renewal. A319s + A320s to replace B734s, a couple of A330s as well, and some Dash8 Q 400s to get rid of the ageing ATRS. I am certain that the Q400s would look very fine in OA colours.

Try to fly with Alitalia via Rome.
CI (China Airlines) flies FCO-TPE with 744 in c/s with AZ. So you can fly with AZ ticket departing from ATH and arriving to TPE. I don't know how much it may cost , but generally are quite cheap.
