LIH, What's The Largest Airliner That Lands There?

Does anyone know what large airliner lands and takes off from this airport?

On a scheduled basis, I believe it would be AA's 757s to LAX and UA's 757s to LAX and SFO.

UA had a flight to LIH before they began flying the 757 to Hawaii-- might have been a DC-10. If not, then a DC-8-71; I'll check.

When airlines operated DC-10s to LIH, they had to come to HNL for fuel, before returning to the mainland.

Not the AA and UA flights. AA operates twice daily 757 service to LAX nonstop both directions, UA operates twice daily to SFO and daily to LAX with 757s nonstop both directions.

That's right. UA 185: SFO-HNL-LIH using a DC-10. I flew it in Feb. 1990. UA discontinued LIH for a while, then reinstated it with a nonstop from SFO and LAX a few years ago.

The largest commercial aircraft that I have seen and flown on into LIH were UAL DC-10's (via HNL). The largest aircraft flown into LIH (that I have seen) were USAF C-5's used to support hurricane relief efforts in 1992.

Maybe they did stop at HNL, but dunno whether they had to. Remember DC-10s flew nonstop to California off of Kona's 6500-ft runway.
