I think is a great a idea because of the posibilities for connections within the same airport (to MIA, LAX, IAH, MEX, NYC, Central America, Caribbean, Colombia, Venezuela). Changing airports EZE-AEP for connections is such a pain. I guess they could do it with 2x or 3x week service to COR and MDZ...not sure about ROS.

Me too.

This article once again demonstrates the media taking a statement that was probably along the lines of a Copa spokesperson saying "We think it would be ineresting to fly to Cordoba in the long-term future" and turning it into "Next week we are starting flights to every airport in Argentina from Panama City".

PTY-COR has great potential for a 2-3x weekly service, though.

The demand from this cities is very well covered by AR and LA. Of the few passengers who go to the US or the resto of Latin America from this cities use the 2 carriers which have good freq. and are quite cheap. Though with the size of COR it could use some flights but is there really demand for connecting traffic???

Remeber not to take this as if this cities were European or from the US or Canada, Latin cities are porr and the demand is not high.

Even though Córdoba has got about 2 million inhabitants, I believe there is not demand for those flights.

Aerolíneas tried absolutely everything, and I mean everything, to develop Córdoba as their second hub. Besides Inter Austral and Aerolíneas Express, which linked COR to some 10 destinations in Northern and Central Argentina, in the late 1990s they flew COR-MIA 2x weekly with 742. Inter Austral, Aerolíneas Express and the flights to Miami, all had to be withdrawn because of very bad results.

Southern Winds started as a Córdoba-based company, but had to move its hub to Buenos Aires because they would have gone bust due to the weak loads and yields.

So, I highly doubt Copa will ever fly to any of the cities abovementioned.

Saludos,
Marambio

Actually, the flights to Miami did very well. There was huge outrage when they ended because they actually met expectations. A long story which I don't know the details about, but it involved AR's relationship with Iberia.

American Airlines is currently evaluating service to Cordoba, which would be flown from Miami. It would be flown with 757s. AA is currently tossing around an idea to create a subfleet of 20 757s that would be used on thin routes from Miami to deep South America (mainly Brazil) and Boston/NYC to small markets in Europe (mainly the British Isles and Germany). At the minimum, Cordoba won't start until winter 2006/07. It is in the very early stages of planning, and COR is just one of many cities being evaluated, so nothing will be happening for a while regarding this.

Maybe CM is thinking COR, MDZ and ROS because argentinan touroperators and wholesalers want once-weekly flights to PTY hub so they would be able to offer holiday programmes to destinations like MEX, CUN, HAV, SDQ, ADZ, CTG, SMR (bus from BAQ), MIA, MCO, SJO, MGA, GUA and PTY directly from those argentinian cities.
CM already operated bi-weekly charters from COR to PTY in the 90's on B737-200.
I don't know how much a PTY - MDZ and a PTY - ROS can be seen as SCL and EZE back-up services respectively.
