From 16 Dec on CO will increase CCS-EWR from one weekly (day 7) to 4xweekly again with 737.
This is good news for CCS as the one weekly service was defiently a joke !
Although we have a daily CCS-JFK with AA 757, I am happy to see CO increase the NYC service again.
well, or President is mad...
But oil prices are very high and the economy is doing quite well. Some countries...like yours...would be happy to have a 2-digit growth....
And this is what makes airlines increase their service.

regarding the president, I do not know as the television information is not always the best and the truth...
And yes germany would be more than happy with 2-digit growth or better to say with any grow...

Oh, MAH4546..is there something you don't know.....
I checked and you are again right ! It's an increase until Feb 12 to 4 weekly, until 19th to 3 and from there 1xweek. It's a shame....
Isn't there enough traffic for AA and CO ?

I would think so, but CO has never done well on Newark-Caracas. No idea why. The only reason they even fly it is because it uses a 737 that would otherwise sit on the tarmac during reduced weekend flying on business routes.

The new frequencies are effective 16 December 2005 through 14 February 2006.
Hopefully, its the first step in getting the EWR-CCS flight back towards a more schedule......CO has been flying the route once per week simply to hold on to the authority. CO has made it known that it would like to get the EWR-CCS back to a daily year round 73G service as soon as practical.

That's true. And probably it's the reason. For IAH there is no choice, so you must take CO.
But AA has always be strong here. They have 4 daily CCS-MIA and one MAR-MIA. So they are better known. This might be the reason.

The two digit growth is based compared with last year where the national strike caused terrible damages to the economy. Colombia has a steady 3-5% growth EVERY year, even with the internal conflict and not a single attempt to overthrow the government in decades...
The exchange rate used to be about 1 Bolivar for 10 Colombian pesos, now we are almost 1 to 1... and all the restrictions to buy dollars are very strict in your country.
I agree with Avianca, I will say there are many problems in a country not used to them..Venezuela had corrupt politicians but very high level of life..
The oil prices are very high now and that is helping the economy dramatically, that is true.
BTW and after all this non-aviation speech, I am glad about the news of CO increasing their routes to CCS, Venezuelans need more choices and I like that...
I miss ACES, I am proud of AVIANCA & I am loyal to AMERICAN

Quoting SFOMEX (Reply 13): I think CCS is sorely underserved, considering the size of the country and its economic importance.
Yes..there are some routes out of the US that are underserved or not served at all. Such as NYC-CCS, MCO-CCS, FLL-CCS. ORD-CCS, LAX-CCS.
Quoting RICARIZA (Reply 15): The two digit growth is based compared with last year where the national strike caused terrible damages to the economy.
That's more than a year ago. So the growth is real. And this year we expect about 10% again.
On the one hand I hate to say that, because this is the fact supporting the mad guy, on the other hand it's good, because it brings us forward.
Quoting MIA (Reply 16): I am happy for CCS. This will help deflate prices to CCS during the holidays.
At least that. But I hope to have that flight back on a daily basis soon. Or getting United back !
Quoting SFOMEX (Reply 13): Having in mind that Mr. Chavez is not precisely fond of the USA, does his government have any say on the routes and frequencies fled by US airlines?
Oh yes, it does ! They recently declined the traffic rights to AA for San Juan-Porlamar ! And I think there was the wish of Spirit to operate a FLL-CCS,. NK didn't even ask for it as they knew they would not get the rights from Venezuelan side.
Everything because Venezuela is in CAT II !

Hey great news!
I'm still waiting for CO to upgrade CCS to a 757 or even a 767. A close relative of mine is a OnePass Silver Elite because he flies CCS-IAH-CCS a lot. He tells me that the planes always go full, and considering the high yields, I think this flight must be a cash cow for CO.

Also I think AA dropped plans to start MIA-VLN (Valencia) after the San Juan - Porlamar reject.

I would not expect an aircraft upgrade on this route - part of the reason that the yeilds are high is that seats are limited. A 738 is probably as big as CO will go on this route.
---------------
Ancient history - didnt Delta once serve Caracas with a flight from New Orleans - I am going back about 30 years......I think that the flight operated only once or twice per week with a DC8.

AA has not dropped plans to serve Valencia. They still want to, but are waiting for the market to be right, and, as mentioned, they will probably have trouble getting Venezuelan approval.

Very true. A large aircraft would kill the yields.

They definitley did. They also flew MSY-MAR at one point in the 1970s, IIRC.

Quoting RICARIZA (Reply 18): The strike has long term effects... a country without the Venezuelan strong economy would have collapsed with that strike...
This is off-topic, but I just wanted to make it clear. The general strike was in 2001/2002 (how time goes by !!). So if I say that we expect a growth of around 10% this year (2005) in comparison to 2004, the effects of the strike are simply gone. Here the development of the GDP:
2002: - 8,9%
2003: +18,5%
2004: +16,8%
So it is correct to say that the growth in 2003 was due to the decline in 2002 and 2001, but if we are talking about the expected growth of this year....
That is what I wanted to say by the effect was at least "one year ago".
Quoting MAH4546 (Reply 22): AA has not dropped plans to serve Valencia.
I think we will very soon see a lot of airlines flying into Valencia. Not only AA, but CO, DL and the European airlines....
No I am not mad, but it looks like they will have to close CCS due to a bridge on the highway that connects the airport and port with the city of Caracas. This bridge is a very bad condition and could collapse every minute.
An as there is only one old road leading through the mountains, taking about 4-5 hours, they plan to divert the traffic to VLN and maybe to Maracay.

CO flew IAH-MSY-MAR with a 72S or 733 back in 1987. I have the flight schedule somewhere promoting that flight actually. I think it continued on to Caracas after MAR. If i'm not mistaken CO still has the route authority for MSY-MAR/CCS, but it's doubtful that they'll ever use it again.
