Hi, I'm back from my round the world trip with the Star Alliance. I started my trip with Scandinavian, flight 703 from Helsinki to Stockholm Arlanda on the 25th of April. Got to the airport early as usually and saw Finnair's MD11s landing, OH-LGA from BKK-SIN and LGB from JFK. Soon after that SAS's MD-81, OY-KHK, was towed to gate 26 for my flight. The aircraft was still in the old c/s and looked like some of the Delta 727s with paint falling off the nose and tail. The boarding started twenty mins before departure and I made my way to seat 15F. The interior looked old and was very dirty and worn out. Took off RWY 22, 20 mins late because of bad weather at ARN. The service wasn't the best, we only got a tiny sandwich and coke. Landed at ARN a few mins late.

Thai 747-400, HS-TGK, was already at ARN, I'd be taking that plane to BKK some four hours later. Spent that time spotting at the Stockholm airport. There were two Premiair A330s and a DC10-10 departing and also AA and DL 763s. Most other planes were European narrow-bodies, expect for a Sri Lankan A330 bound for Colombo. I boarded my Thai flight at about 2pm and made my way to the rear part of the plane, seat 67K. We departed from runway 19 on time and the beautiful Thai F/As gave us menus, drinks and peanuts. Soon after that a delicious lunch was served, I chose pork in curry sauce, which was the best airline meal I've ever had. We headed over Moscow, Uzbekistan and India and Bay of Bengal towards Don Muang Bangkok Airport. The first movie was put on after the lunch, somewhere over Moscow. HS-TGK had no PTVs, only the mainscreen. Also a second movie was shown before a hot breakfast was served only one and a half hours short of BKK. At about six am we landed at BKK. I saw some exciting planes there, a Saudi Arabian 747 bound for Manila, NW 744 to NRT-LAX and an UA 777 to NRT-SEA. Also a Nippon Cargo and JAL cargo 747-200Fs were landing. Then just before putting my camera away and heading to the gate for TG403 to Singapore, Wunala Dreaming, a QF 744, landed as QF2 from LHR I believe.

For my leg to SIN I boarded another Thai 747-400, this time HS-TGP. The boarding was a chaos because they didn't board by rows or zones or classes, everybody just rushed onto the plane. We took off on time after a Mandarin 747-400 and I saw an Air France 747-200 (F-GCBS) in the hangar next to Thai's. Anyone know why it's there? Flight 403 headed towards Pattaya and then between Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City towards Changi Airport. We were cruising at 41000 feet as the crew served a hot breakfast or a hot lunch for us. I chose the lunch as I had just had breakfast on TG961. Also that meal was delicious, chicken and Thai rice. On a flight this short you'd probably get a coke in the States (1h50min)! Landed at the gorgeous Changi International airport on time and I headed to downtown Singapore after collecting my luggage and clearing the immigration.

The story will continue, hope you enjoyed!

Hi, took Thai because I wanted to try them too and they actually were very good. Took SIA from SIN to AKL (part 2) and they really are the best.

Great report - looking forward to Part 2.

I flew in SAS in February, seven flights around Scandinavia, and found them excellent. Apart from British Midland, it's the only STAR carrier I've flown with and I was very impressed. Would certainly like to fly Thai and SIA though.
